Did it start with sternfannetwork? When did Howard start talking about/ignoring certain message boards? . How did the fans on message boards feel about the show in the 90's, 2000's? Just curious about the history of this..

It all started when a primitive primate discovered the first tool...

Stern had a bbs before SFN was born. He couldn't handle the abuse so he closed it. SFN plus a bunch of others sprung up.

The original HSBB was pure mayhem. Cheap bastard probably didn't want to pay for mods to police the site

There were at least a couple of other forums before SFN, the Undergroud Stern Message Board and the Traveling Stern Board. I might be butchering the names a bit but I'm close. They were much more pro-Howard than the current forums but they were harsh on people like Ralph, Jackie etc... There was complaints about the length of vacations even then, so that would be consistent theme.

Yeah there was an IRC but it wasn't too lively. The BBS one was complete havoc, you couldn't read shit in there. You had this one group that would say INVADE and Baba Booey the whole room. If you remember the old KOAM website he tried a few chatrooms too but it was hit and miss with finding someone in there to discuss the good ole days. Like was said, many have come and gone but Dawgs is here to stay!

EDIT: Wait, maybe it wasn't the BBS, it was some chatroom Howard had someone put up that I think was the first website he put up. Still shit though.

Some of the most fun I've had in gaming were hours spent on BBS games. Nothing but text with battles thrown in. The chat was a fucking riot. This was back before Gemstone even. Programmers built huge interactive worlds to teach themselves what could be done. It would take a week of playing and you'd start to visualize where you were in the game. It was a wild effect.

Was this before or after the Prodigy Stern Forum run by Howard & Uzo fan Starr Brennan of Albany, NY?
What a little shitress she was.
    Total female Hitler.
Last time Uzo was in, Starr called in and Howard hung up on her after Uzo responded in a less than enthusiastic manner.

Uzo used to post her phone number on the Prodigy forum and encourage "fans" to call her up.

Here is a documentary about the whole 80's early 90's BBS community

It has many chapters only posting for those interested for their own edification.

I've got a great Prodigy story. I ran up a bill of $1600 over a few months back in 93. They weren't like AOL who canceled your account and you were gone if the CC declined payment. Your account would just get blocked at the main login. One day after the latest ban I hit the weather page to see if it would load. Sure enough. Once you got inside the prodigy shell you had full access I discovered. That weather page back door lasted a while, then one day it stopped. Hm, I look at the stocks page...bingo. This works for only a week. After that, pretty much as soon as I found a new back door they would close it so I knew they were following me. 2 months of this goes on and I'm still receiving a monthly bill from them for the past due :jj: Finally I exhaust all the back doors. I can't find any way in. I get a letter from Prodigy IT saying that since I had opened their eyes to just how easy it was to sneak in they were forgiving my past due and giving me a free log in :hilarious:
