I was in SF for 4 days by myself with no car. saw some guy who I'm pretty sure was dead lying on the sidewalk in the Tenderloin, dudes walking around in the middle of the day buck naked in Castro, so many junkies and homeless in Golden Gate Park, Ashbury/Haight is trying to capitalize on the hippie stuff still but it's really corporate now, China Town was cool, Mission was cool, the Wharf was really touristy but cool. that's all I remember

Carmel was my old stomping grounds in The Air Force. No more beautiful place on earth. I go with Carmel Number 1, Alex. :hw:

Agreed. Visiting Carmel makes me a new woman with new ideas. Absolutely breathtaking.

Alcatraz is a fun tour, but I saw it years ago when there wasn't such a waiting list. Great vistas for fertography.

I'd replace Carmel with the whole scenic Monterrey Peninsula and substitute Lake Tahoe (my favorite of them all) for Alcatraz. Big Sur is pretty breathtaking tool!

tahoe's great, especially during the week. if i could to live there--i would in a minute.

my family used to spend time at fallen leaf lake. like tahoe, only smaller and much less crowded.

Yep, you are right! Only drove up Hwy 1 once in my life - back when I was married. My ex loved driving those curves. I loved the scenery was but the road did scare me. Big Sur was incredible. Hell, everything in sight was incredible.
