I work like a dog during the week. I drive an average of 250-300 miles per week in connection with my job and come home at 8 pm every day exhausted to the bone. I'm 50 years old and feel 80. Today, I'm declaring my independence from "doing something" and am going to relax all day long. Maybe take a nap later. I'm not taking the kids anywhere, not spending crazy money to make a big BBQ for freeloaders (alias family and friends) and not fixing anything around the house. I'm going to be lazy and do nothing but rest.

    Howard-related because he's lazy too.

    I'm working through the weekend.

When I "clocked in" this morning I was at 45 hrs. Will log easily another 26-32hrs the next few.

Next scheduled/possible day off is next Sun 7/12.

    You sound pissed off.
I want to say good for you go ahead which is what you want us to say to you, but something is telling me you are trying to give yourself permission to take a break and obviously your simply saying I need a day to rest and nap or whatever is not so simple for you. Because you have not done this before and because it sounds like those around you who depend on you, need you to not take a nap, and spend money on bbq food. They are the ones you feel guilty and responsible for, hence need permission from. You sound, in between the lines, like you are not appreciated by others around you: spending money to make a bbq for "the free loaders," "not taking the kids anywhere," "not fixing anything around the house," but this is a labor of love for you, all the hard work you do.
You have to give yourself permission sir, if you can live with that, but it seems like an awful lot of people are to be let down by your decision and that is an awful cross for you to bear. By declaring your independence, you are also saying you are no longer dependent on your family...for what? Dependent on them for the validation and appreciation you do not get. When America declared her independence she asserted her right to declare war from her oppressors. Are you declaring war or are you saying I need a break from not being appreciated by you guys, a simple thank you, a pat on the back, some support. This is your way to try and get what you feel you need, but you want from this message board the permission to go after what you need. Think about that, because even if it is given to you, you may realize it is something either you do not want, or something you cannot accept.
    Happy 4th, by the way!

Thats my saying. I told my son to put this on my stone.

    "I can't, I have to work."

It's low six figures (eight if you include the cents). It would be a great living in places like the Carolinas or Oklahoma but it's piss money on Long Island.
