Battlefield 1 features one of the smallest guns in the history of guns
By Joe Donnelly 11 hours ago

    Undercompensation

The past few weeks have seen loads of news coming from Battlefield 1's pre-release camp as it hurtles towards its October 21 launch. We learned recently that its Spectator Mode will come with new video editing tools, for example; and that its single player campaign may be the best DICE has made to date.

If you're signed up to Origin, its Play First trial is now live, but perhaps the best story so far, though, is the fact EA's latest bash of the Battlefield bayonet includes the ultra-dinky 2mm Kolibri pistol. YouTube fellow jackfrags recorded footage of it in action, before it was showcased on Reddit via in the following gif.

Also known as the 2.7mm Kolibri Car Pistol, this tiny gun fires a three grain projectile at about 650 feet per second, and was manufactured shortly before WW1. The demand for military arms at the time caused production to cease, however Battlefield 1's pseudo interpretation of the Great War ensures the Kolibri's place in the fight.

I can't see this and not think of the Noisy Cricket from the first Men In Black, but don't expect anything nearly as powerful—the Kolibri fires at three foot pounds of energy/four joules. This video informs us that isn't very powerful at all.

Calling it the best Battlefield Single Player campaign to date isn't exactly a high threshold to meet. They've always been notoriously terrible, with 4 being borderline unplayable.

That being said, this game is AMAZING!

Yeah. I'm a total WWI history junkie, so it'd be hard for me to not like this game.

Although the idea of France being Day 1 DLC bothers the hell out of me. They were the biggest country in the war for fucks sake.

    Like a million times!

You should also check out Dan Carlin's Blueprint For Armageddon series of podcasts. It's incredibly insightful of the politics that caused the war.

The Guns of August is also a fantastic book.

Hopefully a video game prompts some people to remember The War to End All Wars, and see the eerie similarities between it's start and what's happening in the world today.

    That Hardcore History is awesome.
I especially like the way Dan Carlin says "again".
As in, "And the Germans fired on the French base AGIN and AGIN!"

Best battlefield was the first (1942) I still play it. Simple and fun especially online.

    :jj: that's pretty cool.

Always loved the Battlefield games. The last couple ones were way better than the Call Of Duty games.

Battlefield 4 is absolutely brilliant. Sad it took them a year after release to fix all the problems, but it's so good I'm willing to forgive them for it.

Oh, so you're saying that's a regular sized gun and Beth is handling it? :snicker: That does paint a funny picture
Everything about it was near perfect. The map, the mechanics, the size, the vehicles, the play balance. Somtimes I'd be a dick and let someone into my jeep, just to catch massive air off that hill in front of the ocean -- airborne for h2o. Of couse me bailing at the last second. Don't know why but that would get me cracking up every time.

The greatest thing is that I had all this fun on the free demo map alone. Is the single player campaign any good?

    Wake Island, baby!

Did you ever fly really high and then jump out of your plane? Your character starts screaming and eventually shits his pants (srs). :jj:
