Ladies People of the Shed -

Sorry for a boring topic on a Monday - but I need some help.

We need to purchase a new slow cooker ASAP for a football event on Friday. Old one is dead, dead, dead.

Any suggestions? I just read a ton of online reviews and nothing stands out as a clear winner.

We won't use it enough this season to spend $200+... but I'll spend $100 or under. Looking at Hamilton Beach, Crock Pot or Cuisinart so far. Must be able to transport it easily.

    Thanks in advance.

not only the ladies here cook! :)
I bought mine at bed bath and beyond and if I remember correctly it is a Cuisinart 6 and a half qt and works great. I think it was like $70. I make my turkey chili in it every winter and pot roasts. Everything comes out great.
    try this one:

I don't own one. What about a dutch oven? Or are you looking to "set it and forget it" ?

Get whatever they have at Costco, it'll do the job for a decent price.

    Me neither.

I use my oven set at a really low temperature if I need to all day something.
I've never had a slow cooker that I liked at all.

Sadly - it's more for the hubby. We go to weekend football watching parties and he has stuff he likes to "cook" in there.

I use it mostly for keeping some warm to take over if he hasn't filled it. ;)

So yes - set it and forget it.

I looked at a few back in winter. You can go for basic (low, high temperature knob) to fancy electronic ones with timers and lots of settings. Some of 'em had carrying cases for tailgate parties, etc.
I guess it depends on what you'll be doing with it. You can get a basic one for under $40 that works just fine.

I can't believe I'm going to out myself here, since there are a few posters around here who live to bust balls, but here goes....

I have a serious crock pot obsession. A sickness, really.

:secret: I own 23 of them...

I use my crock pots all year long, and several times a week.

You can get a decent one at Sam's Club (or Costco) I like the digital ones, but it's not totally necessary if you are only going to pull it out a couple times a year.

But, if you DO plan to travel with it, I suggest getting one with a locking lid.
