Chipotle to close all restaurants on Feb. 8 for food safety meeting

Chipotle is shutting down all its stores nationwide for a few hours next month to hold staff meetings about food safety.
The meeting will occur on February 8.

Chipotle (CMG) has suffered from several outbreaks of E. coli , salmonella and norovirus that poisoned customers and caused its stock price to plunge more than a third over the last three months.

Raw Ingredients: The unprocessed story of where your food comes from

The trouble began in August when 64 customers in Minnesota were infected with Salmonella and about 100 people were struck by norovirus in southern California.

These infections were followed by an E. coli outbreak in October and November that affected 53 people in nine states.

In December, Chipotle suffered from two more outbreaks. Roughly 140 students at Boston college were infected with norovirus and a second new incidence of E. coli broke out affecting five people in three states.

Why your food might not be as safe as you think

    Some customers are suing Chipotle.

The company has projected an 8% drop in sales for the fourth quarter. Chipotle will provide its quarterly financial results on February 2.

But CEO Steve Ells said earlier this week that he was "hopeful" the Centers for Disease Control would soon declare that the outbreaks were over.

"We know that Chipotle is as safe as it's ever been before," said Ells on Jan. 13 at a conference in Orlando.

He said that Chipotle is planning to lure back customers with a new marketing campaign in February.

Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold said there hasn't been an E. coli case in two months. Since then, the company says it's been serving a million customers a day "without incident."

The Chicago-based company has more than 1,900 restaurants, including 17 outside the U.S.

Ok, hmm, here's another way to go - perhaps you might not want to buy contaminated lettuce from a vendor, that encourages / allows the farm workers to fucking squat and drop a deuce in the field while they're fucking working. Here's another free tip - i dont know, perhaps have your employees wash their fucking hands with soap and water after they shit in the restaurant bathroom.

End of rant - please continue.

I was a little kid and heard about the deaths. I was turned off to eating there for like 10 years.

It's still in the back of my mind, and i've eaten there twice as an adult, both times when I was in someone else's ride and very hungry.

When I first ate there years ago, I thought it was the best thing and looked forward to going again. My second time was ok, but by the 3rd, it was disgusting. I was sitting there wondering how I once thought this shit was so good since it was now so bad I couldn't even finish it. I don't know if the quality declined that much in a few months or if I became immune to the wonder drug they lace it with or what. I've never even considered going back. And I'll eat Taco Bell.

It's no offense to anyone who is Hispanic, but every time I've gone into a Chipotle, most of the employees barely spoke English. If I would ask a question, they would often have to get one of two English speaking employees to help me. It's easy to see why training and signs posted in English concerning food safety might be ignored or overlooked.
