Christmas Weekend Food Thread

    Man, I've been blessed to have amazing food this weekend.

    My venison summer sausage came out in a league above any I've tried, venison or otherwise.
    Christmas Eve was trays of summer sausage, kolbasy, assorted cheeses, meatballs and a huge variety of breads, spiced crackers and desserts. A bunch of the family is beer geeks, so there were beers I've never even heard of to be sampled.

    Last night my wife made lasagna that was better than I've ever had; she also made a Caesar salad and added marinated grape tomatoes and fresh mozzarella. Homemade garlic bread topped with smoked paprika and Mexican oregano was incredible.

    I just got done peeling baby backs and putting them in an OJ-based onion and garlic sweet marinade. They'll be smoked and grilled over mesquite this evening.
    I hope you all are as fortunate as I am and have full bellies and glasses !

    I've been taking it easy on the good holiday food :( All of my neighbors are apparently ridiculously talented bakers so I've eaten way too many cookies. I've had way too many beers too. For New Years day we always have a Boston butt and coleslaw so that will be the only good food I've had during the holiday season.

    had Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, perogies with sour cream, cabbage rolls last night at wife's family gathering.
    my neighbours are Filipino and she brought over a huge platter of pancit malabon, chicken adobo and pork spring rolls the other day...so good.

    turkey ham the usual
    though the broiled brussel sprouts were better than I would have guessed
    probably the butter and salt but still a nice surprise

    My SIL outdid herself with loin of pork, homemade scalloped potatoes, applesauce and cranberries....was so good! Had a really beautiful day :angel:

    i hated brussel sprouts as a kid, i wasnt allowed to leave the dinner table until i ate them.
    id sit for hours until she gave in.
    id get the whole "ppl are starving in africa" routine. i wanted to say lets mail them to africa then, but i knew better.


    now i love them, tho they gotta be cooked 'just' right

    Christmas Eve is a big buffet - too much to type. Christmas Day is a formal sit down dinner of lobster bisque 1st course, potatoes au gratin ( with cream and milk steeped with fresh thyme for 24 hours, gruyere and parmigiano reggiano ) standing rib roast with mushroom and shallot gravy and horseradish sauce and red swiss chard with dried cherries. Croquembouche for dessert.

    It's easily the most fattening meal we eat all year, but yummy.

    we don't celebrate but our daughter in law does.
    our grandson
    wanted grilled cheese and soup,so that's what my wife made.
