i remember in the early 1990s cartons of cigs were like $20 or $22 dollars for normal, good cigs (e.g., camels, camel lights, marlboros, etc). now they're what -- $40-ish? i don't think that the price of cigs doubling over a 20 year period from 1993 to 2013 is unreasonable at all. so shut up aboat it.

Exactly, those figures are ridiculous because some states are incredibly cheap on Tobacco taxes and some are unbelievably high. I live in Ohio, but drive across the river to Kentucky to buy all of my cigarettes because of the taxes. Not to mention, most of the people who still smoke are making minimum wage or close to it, and minimum wage has not adjusted to inflation the way that cigarettes have. Also, those prices are for cheap ass cigarettes, I defy you to find anywhere that sells Lucky Strikes close to those prices.

it just seems to me that over 20 years it doesn't seem totally unreasonable for a luxury item to increase in cost that much. i remember seeing the price is right when i was a kid and a new car was like $10,000. the same type of new car now is $25,000 - $30,000, so 2.5 - 3 times the price of the car back then. when my older sister started driving, gas was like 89 cents a gallon and this was in the late 1980s.

Because I live so close to Kentucky, we have probably 5 Cheap Tobacco stores in every podunk town here, they actually offer classes on how to roll your own if you buy that pipe tobacco and cigarette roller/papers. I'm too lazy, though.

Id had years of practice back in the weed days and it came right back. Plus it really helps you cut down on smoking cuz you gotta hassle rolling um. Sometimes Id roll a bunch in advance but I also leaned to roll um very quickly while driving on the freeway and steering with my knee

valid point. i think the taxes are gay, but i fully expect the govt to do the same shit to marijuana when it is legalized.

i saw schmoopy smokes marlboro lights. i actually used to kind of like the smell of a freshly lit cig...except for marlboro lights...those always smelled terrible. like burned feces actually.

the price of the cigarettes probably has not increased because the tobacco companies want to retain their customers. the taxes on the cigarettes has increased dramatically over the past $20 years. if the govt charged you sales tax on your car equal to the purchase price of the car, you would be pissed off too.

sometimes intelligence is trying to view things the way those affected see things.
