Jeremy Clarkson dropped from Top Gear, BBC confirms

Jeremy Clarkson's contract will not be renewed after an "unprovoked physical attack" on a Top Gear producer, the BBC's director general has confirmed.

Tony Hall said he had "not taken this decision lightly" and recognised it would "divide opinion".

However, he added "a line has been crossed" and he "cannot condone what has happened on this occasion".

Clarkson was suspended on 10 March, following what was called a "fracas" with Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon.

The row, which took place in a Yorkshire hotel, was said to have occurred because no hot food was provided following a day's filming.

No one to blame but himself. No matter how much you disagree, argue, dislike the people you work with, turning physical is NEVER an option! Especially with a superior. It's happened on the Stern Show. Fights that turn physical always get someone fired.
It's a shame because I'm a big fan of Top Gear and Clarkson but rules are rules and Jeremy broke them.

I heard that it was an argument over James Bond's Aston Martin that led to the fist fight

All three should leave BBC and start a new similar car show on a different network.

How do you know he's fully responsible? Maybe the producer shoved him or something first?

Anyway, if he is responsible, then punish him - but firing him is the DUMBEST thing the BBC could ever do. The show has over 350 million viewers and is the most watched show in the world. Because the BBC is publicly owned, they don't pay huge salaries. Clarkson could be earning Howard Stern level money in the USA.

If Clarkson, Hammond and May have a brain, they need to come over to the USA and hook up with a pro production company and get $20 million annual salaries (or more) and do exactly what they have been doing all along.

There is a 100.0% chance that 100.0% of their audience will follow them wherever they go.

Oh, they will. The (I think canceled now) competing show, Fifth Gear, was started using the original hosts from the original Top Gear.

I actually preferred it, as they actually reviewed cars, and for the most part eschewed the goofy staged stunts of Top Gear. Plus their driver-hosts were far superior real racers.

Clarkson is entertaining at times, but a pompous ass who couldn't handle fame and whose main schtick was putting down things and people. He hit someone over hot food? They had to can him.

    Go to 4:15.

Once they're out from under their BBC contracts, the three will be back under a commercial production company.

This may have already been planned out this way.
