LONGVIEW (KYTX)- Longview Police Chief Don Dingler held a press conference this afternoon to talk about the officer-involved shooting death of Kristiana Coignard.
Chief Dingler named the officers involved as Officer Glenn Derr, Officer Grace Bagly, and Officer Gene Duffie. All three are on paid, administrative leave.
Dingler says Coignard picked up the phone in the police lobby and asked for help, but wouldn't say what the problem was. Officer Glenn Derr observed written on Coignard's hand "I have a Gun." When Derr tried to subdue her, he saw a large butcher knife in her waistband that she was reaching for
Officer Duffie arrived and attempted to use his taser on Coignard, but it didn't work. Coignard charged Derr, and he fired his gun three times while Officer Bagley fired twice. Coignard was hit four times.
She was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
Chief Dingler says this is an active investigation and will be turned over to the Gregg County District Attorney when it's ready.
Was the camera on Mars?
I just watched it myself, hard to get a clear picture of what's happening.
White people problems.
Soooooo..suicide by cop I presume?
The part where the cops were peppering her with bullets is cut out.
Or mentally ill?
Yeah, I wonder who the douche in the white t-shirt is that they show after. There has to be a significant portion missing since there is no video of her being treated by EMT's etc...
You'd think the 300 pound cop could cuff a 90 pound waif when he was mounting her
Yeah but there isn't a break in the video timeline. Wonder what the fuck that was about? Incriminating evidence?
This is a strange story. The girl def had mental issues but did they have to shoot her???
I wonder if there is merit to begin training law enforcement to take disabling, not lethal, shots?
No agenda in the question, I know they were only doing what they are trained to do. But maybe that training could begin to be modified?
Why didn't the fat cop handcuff her and remove the knife while he was sitting on her
That little girl was too strong for him? He manhandled her several times. Also, at one point he gets off her and she's lying still on the ground. I know that people going berserk are hard to handle, but a trained officer couldn't subdue this little girl? He seemed to have her under control a few times. I just don't get how it got to the point where she was separated and he had his weapon drawn. Nothing will come of this. She charged at him. We don't have shit for information telling us the shooting wasn't justified.
I'd like to hear his answer to that.
Idiot cop should have stayed on top of her until help arrived.
No reason a 90lb girl should have been a threat
It only works in the movies when the Lone Ranger shoots a gun out of someone's hand. My friend, a retired cop once said, in a shooting you will shoot as well as your worse day at the range. Under stress it's very hard to hit a small target like a leg. They are trained to shoot center mass. Even then they miss a lot.
