CBS just made it official. Stephen Colbert will succeed David Letterman in the 11:35pm time slot currently occupied by the Late Show when Letterman retires in 2015. Colbert, who will end his Comedy Central show The Colbert Report after nearly 10 years on the air, was rumored as the front-runner shortly after Letterman made his announcement.

If he goes out of character this could go very badly.

How's that supposed to work? He plays a character. Is he just going to turn into Steven now?

Colbert has Stern to thank for his plate being too full.

I love Colbert but this sounds like a horrible idea.

This. Especially if it's just a normal late night show and he's out of character. The reason he's popular is because of that character.

Does Colbert have any enemies or critics who Wiggy can proactively start attacking or smearing ?

I would rather watch Ron Popeil sell his pocket fisherman or rotisserie ovens.

I like The Colbert Report, but I agree, how is it going to work out? Is the Colbert Report replacing late night, or just Steven. Hmmmm
