Big oil will be 'monitoring' pipelines with drones in the near future. If this isn't bad enough, the charge is being led by foreign owned Enbridge oil out of Canada. So a foreign company will be flying drones all over our airspace soon. What could possibly go wrong?

I'm guessing the intentions of kids with remote helicopters is a bit different than that of big oil controlled drones flown from a command center.

Realtors here have been using them for a while. They will be insect sized soon (the drones, not the realtors).

    Anthony Cumia has one.

Trust me, this shit concerns me and bothers me, but from a privacy angle, the only thing that has changed is ease of use. Corporations can fly airplanes and helicopters. They can also take video and pictures from that aircraft. So corporate drones don't really give the corporations access to something that they don't already have. It just makes it easier and, eventually, more inexpensive.

The military already has the LEMV...an airship that can essentially sit stationary above a city for over a month at insane elevations. The surveillance potential is absolutely incredible. It can watch tens of miles of minute activity at once. This is our new reality. Within 5 years, they'll be one hovering over every major city. And the sad fact is that more people protested Ben Affleck starring as Batman than the NSA domestic surveillance programs or domestic drone use. We're fat, lazy and preoccupied by trivial shit that won't impact our lives. It only makes sense that Uncle Sam and the corporations will take advantage of that.

yeah, once you operate under the assumption that you have no freedom/s whatsoever this whole thing is more palatable. especially when the informal changes to the social contract over the last 30 years have transitioned from something ostensibly more square/new-deal ("keep your nose clean, graduate high school, work hard, and the american dream is yours!!!" to "fuck you, if you don't bend over backwards and submit to the will of job X then fuck you there's 48 million other people who would be happy to take it. did i mention fuck you?")

so once you realize that privacy, along with security technically speaking (i.e. if someone wants to run the risk of societal punishment and come at you, guess what, they're coming) are basically nonexistant in the wake of profit margins, welp then all of this stuff makes way more sense.

Take it easy chicken little. .

Big corporations currently use helicopters to fly the oil pipeline routes to inspect them.. and to fly the high tension lines.... the police use helo's to monitor traffic.. you're really gonna get upset about a remote control 100 lbs. plane?

How did you get to be so blissfully compliant? There's a much bigger picture here that reaches beyond just these companies.

Google has a car that drives itself and takes pictures - everyone thinks it's cool. Oil companies want a small airplane to fly itself and watch for problems with a pipeline - people freak out? What am I missing?

Every shit hole country on the planet is trying to destroy the US right now and you're worried about Canada having drones to check on a bunch of leaky fucking pipelines? Give me a few of whatever you're on please.
