for a month, a week or even a day

I had a dream the other night that I was on a reality TV show. The premise was that the contestants had to live as a homeless person for a month. No food, shelter or money. As I woke up from the dream, I was trying to get to the next destination at night in the rain.

I t was pretty unnerving, and made be think about whether I could make it even one day living on the street. What would you do? What would be your plan?

Get a couple of shitty jobs that will pay you off the grid (construction, landscape, mom & pop retail)

Food concerns - Free happy hours in hotel lobbies/lounges

    Shelter- join a 24-hour gym for around $30 - $50 - per month

Storage - keep your clothes in a storage place for about $20 per month

all you have are the clothes on your back. you can't pay cash for a gym, and without an address how do you get a bank account. And how long do you think a hotel will let an obviously homeless person stick around?

id forage for food outside of restaurants and get my water from puddles and small lakes. Being homeless seems pretty easy

Let's assume you are in a reasonably-sized city (w/ multiple hotels- not the same one every day  , 24-hour diners, businesses, libraries, bookstores, clubs, hotels; you know your way around and there's some form of mass transit:

Toughest aspect is finding a place to sleep. You have to begin thinking like a criminal and you'll need some luck. First night you probably won't sleep. Grab a free newspaper or magazine at the front of a bookstore and hunker down at an ihop or multiple ones if need be. You're going to be so freaked, you won't sleep the first night any way.

You could make at least $50 the first day you work or beg. With your shit, defeatist attitude, let's call that $25. You eat for the day and have $15 leftover for laundromat, next day's food, bus fare, etc...

Start trying the main doors at small office buildings-- security is weak or non-existent. You can sleep a few hours in a seldom-used stairwell or find access to the roof hatch. no one ever goes in that roof hatch. If the weather is good, sleep on the roof. That will but you more time to sleep. you won't need it. you have to get your ass to work.

    Day 2 - Start over. Your $10 to $15 is now $25 - $30 (in reality, it's $60 - $80, but let's follow your lame, sky-is-falling tangent....)

After the first week, you can deposit some money in an account (open a PO Box if you catch shit about an address) or snag a VISA check card. You look presentable because you're bathing quickly and surreptitiously in hotel pools, hot tubs and keeping your clothes clean at a laundromat. You've got a lightweight laundry or shopping bag for your essentials. you're mobile as fuck.

you're constantly networking. so by week two, if you haven't talked your way on to someone's sofa-- or worked out a rent-a-room deal-- keep up the sleeping in warm, dry stairwells as long as you can. It'll be a short time before you can share a shitty extended stay with another loser...
