Last minute planned trip, sort of figure it out as you go... The first stop was at the Salton Sea, I haven't been there since the early 80's. It stunk to high heaven and my truck became infested with flies since I didn't have my window's rolled up. The Anza Borrego Desert was gorgeous. The Sculptures were fascinating, I have many pics of these iron beasts. Didn't see any off road action but there were plenty of desert plants. Heading in to Cleveland National Forest it was like someone turned on the lights. We went from dry, arid desert, to beautiful green foliage and trees everywhere. There were even a few streams. Cuymaca Lake was awesome, super clean and all kinds of folks having fun on the water, swimming, boating and fishing. Julian is a special place, visit there if you get a chance. Had lunch in Descanso Junction, the place opened for business in 1938! Hit Hwy 8 in San Diego for the trip homeward... The weather started to drop in Alpine, we hit 76 degrees there. Took a short cut to Interstate 15 via the 76 to save on the drive time home. Passed through Fallbrook the Avocado Farms were in full production mode. Then went back home. Went to The Salton Sea, Borrego Springs, Anza Borrego Desert State Park, Ocotillo Wells, Cleveland National Forest, Cuyamaca Lake, Julian (again), Descanso, San Diego, Alpine, San Luis Rey and Fallbrook. Hell I almost went to Mexico. Before heading home. We had a high temperature in The Anza Borrega Desert of 135 degrees. I'm going to organize the pics I took until I pass out tonight then I'll post the pics that I took when I wake back up. Whenever that is. There were trees, and clouds, beautiful skylines and lots of sand, and birds, and fish, and lizards, and metal statues of desert animals, historical landmarks going back to 1858, lakes and wild turkeys. I had a Venti Cafe Mocha from Starbucks on the way then I snacked on dried fruits all along the way. We stopped at a diner in Descanso that was first opened in 1938 and had dinner there. The food was delicious, and the waitress was super kind and friendly, I think she was Scandinavian. It didn't register to me at the time that some of the fruit I ate throughout the day were in fact prunes. Left at 8 am got home around 8 30 pm. Hit the toilet. Thanks Freds, for the tip on the edit.
