    http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/27/justice/washington-gun-ruling/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

    (CNN)
-- A federal judge ruled that Washington's ban on the carrying of handguns in public is unconstitutional.

In a ruling made public Saturday, Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr. said that "there is no longer any basis on which this court can conclude that the District of Columbia's total ban on the public carrying of ready-to-use handguns is constitutional under any level of scrutiny.

Scullin made the ruling on Thursday in U.S. District Court, according to the published opinion.

The Washington Post reported that it wasn't clear Saturday night what immediate effect the decision would have.

The defendants cited in the judge's opinion were the District of Columbia and its police chief, Cathy Lanier.

The plaintiffs were four individuals and the Second Amendment Foundation, a group that advocates the right to firearms.

This is huge for the 2A community. With different rulings, from different courts, in different states, I surmise that SCOTUS will be left with no choice other than to rule on either open or concealed carry for all states. :)

Where I live guns are very common. Getting a license to carry is easy. We have very little crime. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Good news. Convicted felons, wife beaters and people with drug convictions are exempt. So it's not like gang bangers and thugs will be allowed to carry.

I'm in the market for a new carry/compact 9mm gun. I live in a free state and feel weird without a gun. Who has some recommendations? Glock 19 is an obvious choice but would prefer something in the same size/weight but with a nicer grip. Striker fired as well.

    M&P Sheild 9mm
    Sprinfield XDS-9
    Those are my two faves.

    Kahr CW9 isn't a bad gun.
There are rumors of a Glock 42 (40,43?) chambered in 9mm. Although I've heard the actual 42 is having some FTF issues.

Springfield XDs. I got mine in .45 and love it.

S&W M&P Shield is also pretty nice.

There are quite a few great options out there, depending on your tastes.

Actually the two are unrelated. Without exception, if there are blacks in an area, you have gun violence. No blacks, no gun violence.

Another one bites the dust. Just as the lefties that run Chicago had to be schooled on the Constitution, so did DC...:flag:

I really like the Springfield Armory XDS-9. Although, to be honest, I do not own one, and have only shot two magazines worth of ammo through one. Also, I am biased, as I own a Springfield Armory XD9(which I love), so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

The XDs is my favorite compact. It's my EDC. I was in LV a couple years back and shot a rental at one of the gunshops there. I came home and immediately searched for one. I had to overpay because they aren't legal for sale here in CA. I finally found a LEO who was getting rid of his and not charging a grand.
I was super bummed when they issued the recall as I never had a single slam fire as others were reporting.

Yeah, I really like the gun. It's definitely on my "Firearms to buy" list. I'm sorry to hear you live in Cali, that's gotta be tough being a gun guy. :console:
