‘Death Wish’ Revamp With Bruce Willis To Be Helmed By ‘Big Bad Wolves’ Directors Aharon Keshales & Navot Papushado

EXCLUSIVE: Paramount and MGM are setting Big Bad Wolves helmers Aharon Keshales & Navot Papushado to direct Bruce Willis in Death Wish, the revamp of the Charles Bronson vigilante franchise that is adapted from the Brian Garfield novel. Production will begin by the summer, I hear. Paramount released the original 1974 hit in conjunction with the Dino De Laurentiis Company, and MGM ended up with those rights, which is why the studios are teamed. Roger Birnbaum is producing.

    • They’ve been trying to get this one off the ground for several years and have a script that was started by Joe Carnahan (who was once going to direct), with subsequent drafts by Dan Gilroy and Graham Yost. The new take hews closely to the book, about an architect whose life is destroyed by a violent crime against his wife and daughter. Frustrated that the perpetrators are not held to pay for the violence and degradation these thugs inflicted on his family, the architect takes to the streets and begins dispatching bad guys himself. As Willis prepares for another Die Hard, he’s got the chops to make this interesting enough to launch another franchise.

The Israeli filmmaking team made their debut with Rabies and then followed with 2013’s Big Bad Wolves, a violent, high-octane thriller that became a cult favorite. They are repped by WME.

One of the original feel good movies.. IMO Willis will do a good job contemporizing it.. so long as they don't go too PC trying to depict the majority of the urban scumbags as WASP types.

Which is EXACTLY what it will be. All of the cops will be Black or Hispanic and all of the urban evil doers will be White.

Wake me up after opening weekend when its take will be somewhere in the $5 million range. What is next to be remade? Great Outdoors with a black Tyler Perry cast? Oh Jesus...did I just inspire that dip shit to make another piece of shit movie?

I'd rather see Charles Bronson in Die Hard...too bad he's dead.

Another flop by the untalented Mr. Willis. I thought this prick head was giving up action films?

I'm shocked it's not being done with a black actor: Samuel L Jackson, Denzel Washington, Will Smith, etc etc

    The rape scene always bothered.
The gang include some now famous actors - Jeff Goldblum for one.
Was it Lawrence Hilton Jacobs who was also in the gang?

I watched it one boring afternoon earlier this winter.
Great seeing Stuart Margolis in it- "Angel" from Rockford Files.

Blasphemy. Charles Bronson can't be remade. That would be like remaking Dirty Harry.

    Movie premise...

"Death Wish: killing the new cast of Ghostbusters"

I'd pay $100 to see that.

Wasn't Denzel just entrusted with The Equalizer franchise?

Maybe they'll have to pick someone else for Death Wish. It's just not fair :ufacepalm:

That would be great if Jeff Goldblum reprised his role from the original.

All this awful movie will do is perpetuate and glamorize the white-on-white street crimes that plague our communities.
