Well, I saw the writing on the wall.
New CEO, bringing in his own peeps.
To clarify, I'm a sales manager. My CEO wants to bring in one of his guys to run the team and put me back into an individual contributor role.
My salary stays exactly the same, but I will no longer be running the team.
It's weird, I always talk about how much I hate managing people...my team in particular, but it's kind of like the guard in the prison joining general population.
My ego is also going to be bruised over the fact that I have been constantly at war with Marketing for years, and now those horrible little bitches get to sit there and see that I've been stripped of any power.
I'm trying to decide if I go in to negotiate a severance package, of if I suck it up and stay put. I make pretty good money and with the economy tanking I can't help but be a little concerned.

    Thoughts?

I'm sorry. That really sucks. Is there opportunity for you to return to a management role in the future?

you cant take it personally, even though it's tough. new top dog wants his own people in certain roles. it's the way it is , always has been, and always will be. it might be good to seek opportunities outside this company though

does it have anything to do with the fact that you ratted out the listening devices?
if so, you might have a case for a whistleblower lawsuit.
or you can stay there and keep getting paid while you look elsewhere... I guess it depends on how you would like the other job.

Never ever let go of a branch until you have the next one firmly in your hand.

It's a good thing to be looking, but the only time to be looking is when you don't NEED to be looking. As soon as you're out on the street, for whatever reason your value is massively diminished.

Let the guy come in, give 0 shits about the marketing twats, and see how it goes. You can always be looking, and if you find a good opportunity you can THEN start negotiating a payout AND hopefully start your new gig immediately upon negotiating said 'this isn't for me anymore, I'd like to pursue other opportunities, if you treat me right I'll agree to a release of all claims/consultancy provision/NDA on the way out' etc.

Gat. They did you a favor. Negotiate the killer patch and lowest quota and fuck them all to the bank.

There are only 2 jobs in my org chart. Sales Rep or CEO

Stay for now, but start looking immediately. You need to work somewhere that recognizes and appreciates your value.

This is great advice everyone. My immediate reaction was to go in and blackmail them for a big severance package.

Stay (for now), but start looking for a new job.
Unless the severance is great and you can get another job quickly, it is better to have a job and look for another one than to be unemployed and looking.

I don't know and to be perfectly blunt, I don't think I'd want too, not here.
