I need to get a couple of my teeth in the back pulled they are really starting to hurt . I do not have dental insurance right now and I can not afford to pay up front what they are asking to have them pulled. Is there any other options thats cheaper out there like a dental school I can look in to or anything else??

My husband had his wisdom teeth pulled by students at some university. He now divides his life as "before the pull" and "after the pull." I wouldn't advise it ;)

Can't you talk to your dentist about making payments? Pulling teeth usually isn't that expensive and they should work with you :)

Right now I think the want over 200 just to pull one including the xrays . You have to pay it all upfront

Call 1-800-DENTIST serious. Explain what's up and they'll help you. $200 per tooth seems very expensive

There are some options available to you. There must be a dental school nearby. See if you can get them taken out by the oral surgery residents. Also, see if any hospitals near you have dental residency programs. In both those cases you will have dentists treating you. Maybe not very experienced ones, but they will have at least graduated, and they are also supervised by more experienced DDS.

You could look into community health centers (FQHCs), they are super cheap. But they have their drawbacks. It all depends on the doctor you get.

Why do you need so many teeth taken out? :byeyou:

I put off having my impacted wisdom teeth and it was a massive relief to have them extracted/removed whatever the term was. $200 per isn't so bad. My teeth would ache on hot days when the heat made everything expand. Misery.

Extractions are my absolute favorite thing to do, as much as I hate to see someone say goodbye to a tooth.

Do you ever walk into the room with a big ass pair of rusty pliers just to freak them out? :jj:

No, but that sounds like fun! :) (only if I was referring to an oral surgeon, though)

While you're dispensing free advice what can you tell me about gum surgery? I don't have insurance either but when I have coverage again I may need it. My gums bleed...not much lately since I've been more proactive flossing and using mouthwash but it still happens enough. The couple of dentists I went to to inquire about it freaked me out because I could hear dudes screaming like they were being tortured then walking out of the room holding their mouths with blood all over their faces. Is there a relatively pain free way of doing this?
