David Bowie released the single “Lazarus” on Thursday, and while it’s the next song from his album Blackstar it’s also the only track from the collection that also appears in Bowie’s off-Broadway play Lazarus. To celebrate its release, Michael C. Hall, who stars in the play, and the show’s cast appeared on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to perform “Lazarus.”

Bowie was nowhere to be found but his presence loomed as Hall embodied the show’s lead character, Thomas Newton. Based on Walter Tevis’ novel The Man Who Fell to Earth, Lazarus began its run earlier this month.

Blackstar is due out Jan. 8, and will also feature the opening track to British show The Last Panthers, which Bowie wrote.

I can't wait to see Lazarus and I hope there's an opportunity to meet him after. I've been told I look like Jennifer Carpenter, so meeting him could lead to an interesting photo opportunity.

Lucky! I don't know what it is about him, but he's one of my favorite actors. Loved him in Six Feet Under and Dexter.

i saw a review of the off broadway performance that said it sucked, other than getting to hear Bowie's great songs again.

I know. I wanted them to be real! Wasn't the ending absolutely magnificent?! What a awesome show that was. Such a breath of fresh air amongst all the other formulaic shows. Are there any other shows you know of that are also this good?

I think for some reason I never saw the last episode of Six Feet Under. I tried to start rewatching but it's a different time now. I don't know that I can get back into it. But I was a loyal, every week watcher of it. Loved it.
