    [h=1]Showtime boss: 'Of course' a Dexter spin-off is possible[/h] Published July 30, 2013TVGuide

Not ready to say goodbye to "Dexter"? Then get ready to overreact to this news.

After revealing that Showtime had signed a "rare" two-year overall deal with Dexter showrunner Scott Buck, network president David Nevins was asked whether a spin-off series was still being considered.

"Of course," Nevins told reporters at the Television Critics Association fall previews Tuesday. "We announced a deal with Scott Buck today. Draw your own conclusions."

When pressed for details after the panel, Nevins clarified that nothing is actively in the works and that no deals with cast members have been extended. (The Hollywood Reporter previously reported rumblings of a spin-off centered on Jennifer Carpenter's Debra.)

"We have a deal with Scott and we're going to develop a bunch of different things with him," he said. "All options will be explored. We're really not dealing with it at all until we're through this season and maybe for a while thereafter. It's all about the satisfying ending to the show."

To that end, Nevins said the "Dexter" series finale doesn't necessarily set up the possible spin-off. "There's always things that can be done [after]," he said. "I think ['Dexter'] ends with great satisfaction. I haven't seen it yet, but I have read it and I think it's quite brilliantly built."

Debra nearly ruins the show for me, can't stand her.

The Disturbing Life of Vince Masuka would be a better show.

You could probably have a show that runs for about 10 years, based solely upon all the intensive psychotherapy both Deb and Harrison are going to need after all this is over. :jj:

big fail here...............there's nobody worth spinning off that show. Debra used to be kinda/sorta ok, but at this point she's just a Debra-impersonator. she's like a fouth-mouthed Robin................as in the Batman sidekick.........................now. Instead of "holy __________, Batman!" we get "___________-fuck, Dex!!!".

*waits for "Whitey's World", a "Mad Men" spin-off*

Maybe a Closer/Major Crimes type transition. Just keep everyone except Dexter and prob Deb. None of the characters are good enough for a spin off but they could probably hold down that show on their own. Just add one big name/possible lead actor and give it a shot.

Next week on Major Crimes, they've got a shitload of older t.v. stars, like Marion Ross (Mrs. Cunningham, Happy Days), Doris Roberts (Everyone Loves Raymond), Tim Conway (Carol Burnett Show), Ron Glass (Barney Miller) & Paul Dooley (Curb Your Enthusiasm).

I loved The Closer and I love Mary McDonnell but Major Crimes needs to pick it up. The cases lately have been dull.

A few years ago, The Closer had Raymond Cruz (who plays Det Sanchez and was Tuco on Breaking Bad) fighting with a dude in the cab of an 18-wheeler and hanging out the door while the truck was screaming down the road at 100 mph.

I love G.W. Bailey (who was in the original Police Academy -- the dude who ended up in the gay bar) and his partner, Andy Flynn, played by Tony Denison.

Also, why does the fucking US need to beat EVERYTHING into the ground? Dexter, The Office, Sons Of Anarchy. Just a few of the shows that should have ended after a few seasons.

the last 3 seasons have been mediocre but i thought they'd really blow it out for the final season. all indications so far point to more mediocre crap.

Dexter got way too formulaic. First episode of Season: Introduce new nemesis. Last episode of Season: Dexter eliminates nemesis.

Dexter lost its way; Dexter was supposed to be psychopathic, and Debra was supposed to be his moral touchstone. now this new broad shrink is telling Dexter that he isn't psychopathic, and Debra is no longer Dexter's moral touchstone.

Sounds really, really boring. I do believe I'm just going to skip the final season. My time is more valuable than that.
