1. the film was too slow, and not slow in a Bela Tarr/Tarkovsky sense, but in a sense of forced dialogue replete with actorly accents and pseudo-dramatic posturing, like watching American actors on stage doing Hamlet, but without the blood. 2. the film lost me after the soldiers were reciting to Lincoln 3. It made me bail even more at the annoying characterization of Mary Todd Lincoln played by Sally Fields. Again, she looked like someone acting. so, if it wins tonight . . . there is no hope for Hollywood. Thank God for indie films.
