During last night's embarrassment of a loss for the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs player Husain Abdullah intercepted a pass thrown by Tom Brady and returned it for a touchdown. Abduallah, who is Muslim and took an entire pro season off just so he could visit Mecca, knelt down and prayed in the traditional Muslim manner. He was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. Almost immediately he was a trending topic on Twitter and people started slamming the NFL for allowing players like Tim Tebow to pray in the end zone after a touchdown and allowing players to gather in prayer, but threw a flag when a guy prayed differently than they were used to.

This morning the NFL apologized to Abdullah for the penalty and said it should not have been called. The official line of the NFL is that you are not to be penalized "for going to the ground for religious reasons." This is the right move and the last thing the NFL needs is for more backlash this season. Abdullah really took the high road last night and said he was partly to blame because he was a little excited and might have slid on the ground too long before starting his prayer.

The NFL should only apologize AFTER people stop getting arrested in middle east countries for merely being in possession of a bible.

I wonder if the NFL would let him use his ceremonial suicide vest during games?

Religion should not be allowed in sports. If you want to quietly say something to yourself, than that's totally cool. But the blessing of themselves, kneeling, bowing during games is a bit much. It's a game. Play it. Religion has its place outside of sports.

"I like to thank God/Allah/etc for helping me and the team today. Without him, we would be nothing"

So God or Allah, etc is a fan of your team while he hates the other team??

So while there's horrible disease/famine/death/etc going on around the world, God is watching you play a childs game for millions and helped you win the game over the other team who probably prays to him too??

How come no one is yelling/praising/ blessing themselves after a fumble or loss. Did God or Allah just not make it to your game??

Good thing they don't make PEANUTS TV Specials anymore or you'd see shit like Happy Ramadan Charlie Brown.! And they'd have to add some filthy little brown skinned kid with a turban named Abdul or something. This country is doomed

    Isn't intercepting a pass like stealing ?
Don't the Muslims chop a hand off for stealing ?
Roger Goodell should have walked out to the end zone with a sword and delivered the punishment immediately.

Just once I'd love to hear someone with balls say, "Well, we didn't play our best game tonight, but fortunately for us God really hates their team. Doesn't care much for their fans, either. And he thinks their city blows."

One's opinion on this issue doesn't matter one way or another. Its clear that Americans will continue to watch football no matter how reprehensibly the NFL or it's players behave. You've had cheating scandals, dog torture, drunken players killing people and getting off scot free... stabbings, shootings, guys cold-cocking wives in elevators on cam, even closeted homosexuals (Aaron Rodgers). None of it matters. The sheeple want what the sheeple want. Eat it
