I was 6 or 7. It was terrible. Nasty Bubble Gum flavored fluoride, dry mouth so those awful metal instruments could go in and poke and prod at your teeth. That horrific "Alien Abduction" like Overhead Light. Didn't help that the waiting room had 7 year old Scholastic magazines with the word fines already done. What say you peeps?

My dentist as a kid was a relative. He was kind of a dick, but his wife was his assistant and hot, so I liked when she touched me. She wasn't blood, so it was ok that it made my wiener feel funny. That's all I remember. I don't recall any bad dental experiences until I got braces in the 5th grade. Those were brutal and that dude was a total fucking nut. I truly believe he was high on that gas all the time. A total fucking loon. The parents thought he was a hoot, but they didn't have him twisting sharp wires around in their mouths. He would tighten them way past the point of reasonable. It fucking hurt and I could feel my teeth being slightly pulled from their sockets. And the asswipe was always leaving the end of the wires sharp and too long and they'd cut into the back of my cheeks. I'd be fucking bleeding for days. I'd tell him and he'd just laugh, mumble some incoherent shit and do it that way again. I had to start going down in my dad's shop and reach wire snips way back in my mouth to trim the wires. And my bottom teeth still ended up crooked.

I was about 7 as well. My dentist had these bright blue eyes that were always bloodshot. I still remember his nose hairs. :giggle: He had no dental chair side manor, especially for a kid. He was not gentle. I also remember his breath always smelled weird…I later found out he was an alcoholic, so it was booze breath…Like Howards mother, my mother did not believe in novacaine (until she had her own cavity;)) and I remember how much his drilling hurt…

Hows that?? Now, about my first time at gynecologist:eek:

My first recollection of the dentist was when I was probably 4 or 5 and I knocked my front teeth out on the monkey bars at day care. My mother explicitly told the people at the day care to not allow me on the monkey bars since I couldn't reach them. They, of course, allowed me on them and I tried to jump to catch the first bar. Needless to say I missed. Went to the dentist and had to get novocaine shot in my gums. I was screaming. Awful experience.

My dentist gave me nitrous oxide. It was fun except for the pain!

Thank heavens my dentist(who i still think used to drill craters so he could fill them) was into giving oral with no expectations of reciprocation. I did get into trouble years later when misunderstanding the role of his oral hygienist... but I digress). My first dentist went on to marry a manicurist....short lived marriage as they fought tooth and nail.

You should start the "first gynecologist " thread. (my ex's business card read "Dr Johnson At Your Cervix).

Same thing, no Novocaine, sometimes a couple of teeth filled in a visit. I wish we had fluoride. Being 7 years old and having a nerve blasted with a drill stays with you for life. Still hate to go.

A butcher an absolute butcher.... I am deathly afraid of dentists..Crowns, root canals, crown lengthenings and other assorted treatments have been visited upon me.(All painful!) Worst of all is that I have dental insurance and it barely pays.... certainly not like medical insurance does!

my first dentist worked alone, no receptionist, no assistant. That was back in the days when dentists and doctors were more like normal people- because people paid out of their pockets for services.
