I went to the midnight showing opening day with another lady I used to work with that was also a Stern fan.
Boy, have times changed...
Nope. Saw titanic though.
No, I saw it on HBO, maybe rental.
Packed theater. Everyone was laughing. Movie was pretty good to watch live with people. Now after the divorce the movie is an all time classic. Lines like "never leave your wife" have me continually pissing my pants.
I rented the videotape, I think, maybe DVD.
That bomb went straight to video in record time. It was never widely released and have no memory of it in theaters at all. I only remember Howard harping on it on the E Channel. I saw it about 15 yrs ago on cable. Borefest, dated, not funny, gross...Howard looked like a giant idiot with all those wigs. Bad idea to play yourself in a film.
I saw the film a few times at private screenings before it opened...and I saw the film a few other times with real live audiences during it's opening weekend.
Certain things still bug me concerning what could have possibly been done "differently"..that probably would have brought that film over $100 million at the box office.
You are completely retarded...Lets not re-write history just because Howard is a douche now.
Same here, it was like a fucking party in the theater, such a good time. I remember my g/f at the time even enjoying it and she wasn't that big of a fan.
I remember buying tix early in the day because when I called they said it was going to sell out by the evening and it did, it was crazy.
People here hate Stern now for good reason but as someone else just said, let's not re-write history, he was at his peak here.
It was a decent movie, but no masterpiece. Playing yourself is the easiest thing to do. Even Madonna basically did it in Suddenly Seeking Susan and got good reviews for it. That was before she got so affected that she can't act anymore. She got good reviews for Evita because she thinks she is a queen. Piece of shit Evita was rented it and heard singing at the beginning and popped out the DVD. I walked out of it in my own house.
Nope. Too young
catv i think, maybe vcr rental tho
i went to the midnight premier at the kabuki theater in san francisco's japan town.
it was fucking great! packed full of lunatics screaming at the screen. good times.
I saw it in the theater, loved it. I still watch it now and then, quote it when the opportunity presents itself. I don't know if $40 million is a bomb though, but it obviously didn't make enough to warrant a sequel. I wish it'd get released with actual extras, like deleted scenes, but if it hasn't happened in 16 years, probably will never happen.
7 or 8 years ago Howard said he was approached about re-releasing the DVD with deleted scenes and extras, but he declined. I think he mentioned it would be weird doing any type of press for it, because he got divorced and was seeing Beth.
Saw it on opening night with a packed theater of Stern fans...Those were the days...
Oh, and they're long gone now...
I wasn't a Stern fan at the time, didn't listen to the show, but I saw it in my college town, during my first year of college, because I wanted to see boobies and it seemed like a fun movie.
No one cares anymore and Howard won't do it unless they pay him big, he doesn't understand doing things just for the love of it.
$40 million back then is good box office in todays money. Not a summer blockbuster but still good. That may be worldwide and not just American box office or even just box office, you know he likes to spin numbers to make himself look better.
heard it was in theaters, was sick that day
