I read something a while back from a girl who talked about the constant gob-spitting in China. She said it was so gross she cut her trip short. They'd just spit on the floor of the train and think nothing of it. Apparently they have a few other quirky habits in public these guys came accross.

I know those guys explained it away by the cultural revolution, but I think a lot of it is just too many goddamn people. You stop giving a fuck about social mores when you're always in a crush of human cattle.

My brother is with a Chinese chick. The family is in the communist party and they're well off. Before I met the family I thought, because of their culture, they'd be unostentatious and quiet. I couldn't have been more wrong. I've never met more money and possession oriented, materialistic people in my life. Happiness is solely about possessing more than the next guy and they have no shame in it. I admit I was shocked.

The standing too close thing would be the last straw. I turn around and give people the look all the time at WDW here. When I can feel some asshole's breath on my neck, that's too close.

We got bamboozled by an opportunistic chink broad in our moderately well to do family.

Started off all sweet and loving and cared about each family member during the courtship, then she got the ring, wedding, kids, etc.

Now, she's a total bitch who won't acknowledge anyone and is psychotic/enraptured about her kids and no one else.

    Total 180.
    She's a head case.
I don't know her hubby (who is a cool guy) does it....

I witnessed it at Hong Kong Disney. Spitting, loudly farting (and not laughing about it... Just a loud fart), and line cutting was a big one. People would just walk up and hop over the railing and squeeze in front of you.

They had signs all over telling people not to spit.

Another big one was people climbing over barricades and fences to sit or lay in the landscaping. They would buy their squid from a cart (funny to see in a Disney park) and climb over the railing and lay down in the grass and eat.

I know they took all of this into account when designing Shanghai... To minimize these things. But you won't stop it all, for sure. As I understand it, there was grafitti on some of the walls before the park even opened.

And I think I mentioned all the cost overruns in building Shanghai... It's because the Chinese workers didn't build to Disney specs. Some buildings had to be rebuilt 2 OR THREE TIMES.

Contrast all that to Tokyo. Everyone has manners. Everyone is considerate. I saw a family spill a popcorn tub, and they picked up every kernel, one by one. And that wasn't unusual. That's just what they do. I saw countless examples of that. They were constantly smiling and happy... It was noticeable in Hong Kong that most people were expressionless or almost like a blank stare.

Found a pic I took of the squid cart!!

The Chinese, for being one of the world's oldest and most culturally full people, are also quite disgusting, messy, rude, and kill or eat anything that crawls, runs, or slithers.

Not to mention overpopulation and a cheap labor force that's absorbed the middle class of this country.

Oh and let's not forget they torture and eat dogs.

That's one thing about Shanghai Disney... It's the cheapest Disney Park to visit in the world. It's around $75 for a one day ticket (25% less than Disney World, for example) and it gets less expensive for tickets with more days. People in mainland China just don't have tons of extra cash to blow, like you said.

Where does the spitting come from in Chinese culture?

EDIT: Did some searching - looks like that culture thinks of spit as toxic and they'd rather not swallow it.

I never saw rat, but they eat ANYTHING... So I wouldn't be surprised.

After about 6 days in Hong Kong, I couldn't take it anymore. I had to go to Hard Rock Cafe for a giant burger and fries and KETCHUP. I don't know why, but I was ready to chug a bottle of it.

I think it stems from the whole "no personal space" thing. There's people EVERYWHERE. All the time. So if you gotta spit, you might as well spit. You'll never get a minute alone to do it. Bodily functions are just viewed differently there. Burping at the table with people they hardly knew (me). Farting was an all the time thing.

Know what's ironic? The most space I had to myself in Hong Kong was at Disneyland!! Here's a pic I took just before lunch on an April Saturday. There was nobody there.

I go to atlantic city a lot and these fuckers love to gamble. Casino is full of them. That second video is absolutely true. They will walk right into you, stand practically on your feet in line and are just filthy people. That being said, I still want me some Chinese gash.
