Just wondering. I get more and more voice mails during the day when businesses should be answering the phones. - Even doctor's offices.

Answering the phone is so 1980....

But in all seriousness, it seems harder to reach a human when calling places.

I've found that Twitter is the new way to get instant customer service.

If you're a business, you have to take some of the b.s. calls. I mean like today I was calling to get an appointment so I could get my contacts and need a new prescription. Why would an eye doctor's office not answer the phone for paying customers.

Me too - I have to answer tenants who call - or they'll email, which is fine too if not an emergency. That's different. I'm talking about making appointments.

Oh I use Twitter for complaining. I misunderstood, my apologies.

The dealership I take my car to has a nice online scheduler, that's awesome.

yea its a battle, mostly telemarketers. For awhile i tried logging all the calls manually in notepad to try to call them out after theyd call me again 50 days after i pressed '2' to be removed from the list'

Then i started screaming at all of them, and that helped.

Now, i just put on my best Vietnam voice and say 'You no call here no more!' and hangup.. just for a laugh. I couldnt keep stressing over it.

I was trying to tell one of them off one day and the fucker told me he couldnt hear me with 'all that cock in my mouth' and hung up. Coward!

Its worth it though because we have a lot of new customers that call. And if i dont answer or if I treat them like shit.... I lose. :grad:

I have my phone with me all the time. I answer ever time unless I am with another customer, so yes, some business still pick up the phone

When I call a business and hear a recording pickup, I immediately hit zero.
On most phone systems it's a default set to transfer to the operator.

Though sometimes I'm hit with "an operator is not available" and then the entire greeting replays.

And yes I'm not proud to say I work for a business with a recording that picks up all incoming calls.
However I personally recorded the greeting, and make it clear right away hitting zero will get a live body on the phone before going through the scripted spiel of extensions and options.

Some the new telemarketer tactics are tricky: You answer a spoofed number and its like a ten minute recording that you must listen to before you can opt out by keystroke or berate someone verbally/emotionally.

SO you either eat shit and listen to it, or you hang up like a bitch and wait for the next one

I can't stand automated phone answering service
    at businesses.
They never have the option you're looking for.

I get a lot of stockbroker calls, like what Sal did in the old days, I just say "I'm not interested, have a nice day" and hang up.

you ever go to the Walmart or something retailish
and you're next to deal with the counter person
and they answer the phone to take a call from some potential customer who may or may not actually show up?

    I fucking hate that

I for one welcome a world where businesses don't deal with you phone people

the heat has made me a tad cranky
