in the shower this morning my wife had some new super expensive shampoo and conditioner. Like crazy expensive.

What the fuck?! Is there really a difference, I sometimes use soap and my hair always looks the same even when I tried the expensive stuff

    Yes, it matters.
Also, don't buy brands that are supposed to only be sold at salons at drug stores. They are likely fake or expired.

My hair is medium length, fine and straight. Most shampoos work just fine for me whether they are cheap or expensive.

40 bucks so your hot wife thinks her hair still looks "Hot and Youthful"?

Unless you're collecting food stamps and/or working in a vacuum store...That's acceptable.

Many different brand products begin with the same base. For example, All clairol lotions start with the same base lotion and then they add color, fragrance, and some trace ingredients so the differences are mostly packaging. That said I believe shampoos have differences but mostly in the so called medicated brands, although I bet it boils down to those with coal tar vs those with the miracle secret ingredient : coal tar with a patented name.

I have compared Nutragena shampoo to the private label clones: they seem to have the same ingredients although the clones have a higher % of water per bottle, so the brand is a still better deal.

Listen, I'm pretty much of a hair care specialist around here, non fag.

a.) Shampoo is for losers. Fuck that shit, it ruins your hair.
b.) I use Garnier Fructese, and it works awesome.

You shouldn't use shampoo with bad hair like that, it can ruin it even further.

Do you know if your wife has chemically straightened hair? If so, her stylist probably recommended that she use a sulfate-free shampoo. They tend to be more expensive
