Do you silently wish for a catastrophic accident when you watch an auto race?

I'm watching the Nascar race in Fontucky this afternoon, (a) because there isn't a god damned thing to watch on television right now, and (b) I've attended several races at this particular track ....
I'm hoping there will be several interesting accidents to enjoy while these cars race rather slowly around the track today .... Otherwise I'm gonna change the channel & be forced to watch Leave It To Beaver reruns

Fontana=single file line for 3 hours. One of the most boring tracks on the circuit, along with Texas and Charlotte. Always fun to see Danica fuck up though.

Can't stand NASCAR. Any kind of primer where I could at least understand the appeal? I love pretty much all sports, but car racing? I don't even consider it a sport. I like to argue with people who call it sports.

How can people get so wrapped up in that?

There's a lot of technical aspects to racing that I doubt the Copenhagen chawing rednecks can even begin to fathom.

So it's probably mostly about the beer.

It's physically demanding just driving 500 miles. Now do it on the edge of crashing at very high speeds and it's something the majority of people aren't physically capable of doing.

Forget even driving it, most people couldn't even withstand being a passenger in a race car for 500 miles.

I can get that. I wouldn't be able to do it. I know that for sure.

I guess it's not exciting for me to watch. A basketball game is back and forth. Football has all kinds of marches down the field. Baseball is great about the strategy.

I just don't feel like watching cars drive around is exciting. I try not to judge too much, because my dad and his friends are into it and I'm not a complete asshole.

I never watch it on purpose but when I am forced to watch it because it is on at a bar or something like that then YES. Yes I do.

Golf is so relaxing and peaceful though. I can't htink of anything better than lounging back and napping in and out of golf.

There's a tremendous amount of engineering and strategy in racing, but there's also a little bit of luck.

We used to get freebies to the two tracks in Joliet growing up. They are pretty fun, comparatively, but still gets boring quickly.

Love Nascar, I'm from the northeast so it wasn't something I was brought up on, got into it in my 20's. A lot of people get hooked once they've been to a race, it's a weekend long party, especially the tracks where you can park on the infield, saturday nights there are a blast, lot's of titties getting flashed and whatnot.

I think maybe because I can't see the man actually doing it, it makes it kind of detached to me. They rely on their automobile engineering and their skills, but I'm not seeing a guy make an amazing pass or catch, or hit a three with seconds left. So it seems a bit distant.

Enough of me shitting on it though. Not my intent. I just like to know what people enjoy about it besides rooting for their favorite car brand.

This, there are very few sports (to watch) where you can zone in and out, and just pick it right back up with a quickie graphic showing the score....
