    Just grabbed some dinner from a local pub. Called in my order. Picked it up at the bar. Got a dirty look from the bartender when he looked at my credit card receipt and saw I didn't leave a tip.

    Who is the jerk? Me or him?

    You're the jerk. Tipping on take out is a given for me. It's more work to get together a take out order than dealing w/a physical guest in house. Take out orders require you to give the back of the house to go boxes for all the food ordered and having to bag it all up for the customer rather than just having the food runner drop it at their table. Also sometimes the server has to stop what their doing w/in house guest to go over the specials w/the person ordering take out over the phone which cause them to in turn get backed up with the physical guests they have in house. Remember to tip on take out orders next time.

    Depends on the mood. Nice little Thai place by my house, when I pick up and the food and the place is dead I'll leave them 3-5 bucks. When it's busy I don't leave them anything.

    Gratuity should never be expected unless you're making the server/bartender do a bunch of bullshit on your behalf.

    No tip on take out. If i'm getting a 12pk to go at closing time i aint tipping on that, so why should i tip for take out food. Do i have to start tipping at the KFC drive thru window now too? They should be happy the joint is getting some bonus biddness.

    And I hate it when I go to get pick up food, and the receipt has the Tip line on it. I always cross it out, and leave the amount due.

    One of the mexican places I go to just runs the card, and thats it, no signing.

    I hate when the takeout receipts have a tip section on them... I feel guilty not leaving anything.

    (full disclosure: if the person is very nice, and the food is on time I'll tip, but still....)
