PPV'd "Tim's Vermeer" over the weekend. 'Twas a fascinating story of a smart dude that may have figured out the last piece of Vermeer's method of painting and his quest to painstakingly make his version of one of Vermeer's works. I heard about it on Penn Jillette's podcast and couldn't wait to see it. A fantastic 80 minutes (ish). :toptip:

A bar I go to at lunch when I work downtown evening events has their version of a "royal red robin" burger. That's on the agenda for this evening. :cheer2:

I'm going to give it a try. It sounds like it is sort of out of my roundhouse but I love a pleasant surprise.

You didn't ask for suggestions but here are some from me:

I have saved almost all of the Ken Burns documentaries. I love history and they have all been very interesting so far.

Cosmos just finished last week on Fox. I liked about 85% of it. Some of it got a little boring. It never became political or preachy as I kind of expected. Every episode is worth watching. The animated scenes are kind of low quality but they work really well for some reason. Made me want to meet that Neil Degrasse Tyson.

I also Just obtained "Music City." which is about Capital Records. Dave Grohl put it together and I'd probably watch it just because I respect him but I've heard it is really good.

The topic is presented well and isn't all "artsy". I enjoy a quality documentary on just about anything though. I never paid any attention to Vermeer's work in the past, or any other art really, but this film does give me a greater appreciation.

Thanks kd for the tips.......I've seen all that you've recommended and agree that they were well worth seeing. :toptip:

I've seen parts of it and the two creepy/stalker/losers in it make the arcade guys look like GQ Brad Pitts.

it was a little preachy. the animated scenes were god awful. just absolute shit. the show seemed to be aimed at kids.
i liked tyson before this series, now, not as much. to me, his presentation was too theatric. too practiced.
all in all, a big disappointment.

I had to turn off Comos when they started talking about global warming. 30 to 40 years ago everyone was saying that we were headed for the next Ice Age.

I'm so over all that crap.

I don't think we are that far apart on our opinion, other than I really liked it.

I can definitely see where you are coming from on the part about being aimed at kids. I didn't know a whole lot of it so I needed some of the basics. I was looking up people and events on my laptop during every show.

Most of the show was actually animated. The space stuff looked realistic. So the cheesy historical ones had to be cheesily done on purpose. I just thought they fit in. Maybe they reminded me of school films from my misspent youth.

I guess I can see where some of it might be preachy but I didn't take it that way. The Global warming part seemed like it stuck to scientific fact. I almost thought he was going to get into creationism vs evolution a couple of times but he never did.

On the last episode, I was wondering what he might really be like, hence my comment on wanting to meet him. I just kind of assumed his delivery was close to his normal way of speaking but it would be kind of weird going around talking like that.

I tend to just forget about parts in shows like this that I don't like and try to take away some better understanding of the big picture. I'll never fully understand it all so I appreciate anything that moves me along even a little bit.
