Me too, they let you be an announcer when you are too senile to coach anymore.

We will have to agree to disagree on your statement. He would still be coaching if that were the case. IMO.

I like the guy and he knows football, but his speech issues are getting worse. Probably time to retire, Lou.

But Holtz is definitely more knowledgeable than Lee Corso. Corso brings only high energy, high volume chatter that adds almost nothing. I suspect Corso only watches highlights, reads off the teleprompter, and hasn't actually broken down any game film in years.

Yeah but that's like saying Parcells, Madden, Cowher, etc don't know football and went to the booth. Holtz was about 67 yrs old and said he was too old to be going through the wringer and thought the school backing of recruiting at SC was getting weak. I mean after dominating at Notre Dame, he took no name South Carolina from 0-11 to 8-4 to 9-3 and two bowl wins. But we can disagree ;). Some people like him, so don't.

Exactly, the man is 76, he's too old deal with all of the hassle that goes with coaching. He never liked having to deal with the big donors and school officials even when he was younger.

And he's always had a speech impediment - doesn't make him unable to follow the game.

he knows football, but makes me turn the channel when he's on. He sounds like he's going to lose his retainer.

If he and Rich Vos ever had a conversation it would result in a tsunami.

I agree that he knew football. At this point, both he and Verne Lundquist should go to the old folks home. :sarcastic:

He was 32-20 against ranked opponents at ND, so you and I have differing opinions on what is considered "dominating" too. He pulled SC out of the gutter, but failed to deliver a conference title against the powerhouse teams of the SEC. :dontknow: Good coach, not a great in my opinion. Maybe you are right, I just don't like him. :jj:

Good points. Didn't know the "against ranked" record until you posted it but he did win 5 bowl games a National Championship there. Again, not saying one of the greatest coaches ever, I just think he was a very good one. It's true, people either hate him or love him haha.
