I notice a definite shift in my speech when I'm hanging out with them.
u know what im saying
It's not necessarily the words I use, but how I say them.
yes. i coached with 5 black. all had south carolina black accents. i caught myself having a hint of dialect
I speak slower and use smaller words, but I do that with people here too.
I don't use big words around them.
I just cross to the other side of the street.
This didn't happen. ^
Yo cracker why you be axing me that ketchin?
I don't talk to urban people at all.
I've seen the pictures
It's natural to mimic what you hear.
*Warning: Repeat Story Ahead*
I was ordering at Popeye's and lapsed into a Southern drawl, mimicing the 2 nice ladies waiting on me.
I was horrified that they'd think I was making fun of them.
And it happened immediately, it was weird.
Ugh! My husband does the exact same thing!!
It makes me CRAZY!!!!
If he only knew.
Madonna took on a British accent during her marriage to Guy Ritchie.
