1940-1980 r.i.p. john winston lenneon Today marks what would have been John Lennon's 72nd birthday. Though it has been nearly 32 years since The Beatles icon was shot on the front steps of The Dakota, he is still remembered every day by fans who flock to Central Park's Strawberry Fields and new fans alike, who are just beginning to "Come Together." And for that, we celebrate the music master in photos from Liverpool kid to world stage regular. I used to get high in Strawberry Fields, Central Park. That was before Walt Disney took over the city.
I'm a huge John Lennon fan and I do wonder what music his fans have missed out on. I agree with Howard, that excluding loved ones who have died, I wish John Lennon was still alive. I can't wish him Happy Birthday, though. It's pretty dopey wishing a dead person happy birthday.
Anything he did, that I want, is in my record collection. I'm not going to worry about what could have been there. No offence to John, may he Rip.
FWIW, it's also Sean Lennon's (37th! I'm fucking old!) birthday. He got a very sweet tweet from big brother Jules: Julian Lennon @JulianLennon Hoppy Birdy Sean! x
I loved and miss this guy. He was my hero- frail, human, genius all in one. Some asshat had to ruin it
That fuckhead Chapman (among other things like costing a son his father) cost the world some great music. IMO out of his solo work, John's best (overall) solo album was Double Fantasy, which came out a month before he was killed. Most musicians lose their edge and ability to produce hits that late in life (40 is "old" for a star to be making new hit music). I have no doubt Lennon would have made some amazingly weird and awesome shit in the 80's. Fucking cock sucking mother fucking faggot bitch ass Mark David Chapman.
he did it for the notoriety. even when people type "fuck you", he gets off on it. people need to just agree to never type or mention that asshole again. talk about john all you want but never ever type the asshole's name on the net again. make him fade back into obscurity.
The sad thing is that he succeeded. He killed Lennon to steal his fame and become as well-known as Lennon, and he did. Aside from achievements that better the world, notoriety and celebrity are the only things that can make you immortal (at least in the history books). You might be a great guy, but if you don't change the world or aren't well known, in a few generations it'll be as if you never existed. As long as humanity exists and our written records survive, Mark David Chapman's name and legacy will also sadly survive. The same with Jerry Sandusky, Adolf Hitler, Charles Manson, Osama Bin Laden, etc. You are only remembered if you did great things. To steal a quote from a Harry Potter movie: he did great things, terrible but great. Our history books only have men of great achievements and douchebag assholes.
