    But has a happy ending

Dog covered in hot tar and close to death saved by volunteers in this remarkable footage

This dog was close to death after falling into a pool of hot tar that left him unable to move.

The poor pooch was spotted by a passerby after the black mixture had dried and became solid, leaving the desperate dog in a dire situation.

The witness called the Animal Aid charity for help in the Indian city of Udaipur.

Volunteers raced to the dog's side and worked over two days to painstakingly remove every scrap of the thick black tar.

In the footage the young canine just lays still with wide eyes as the rescuers use vegetable oil to remove the deadly tar.

Dog: Covered in tar and close to death
    The transformation is remarkable.

By the end of the clip the young pup is playing and eating treats after being saved from a horrible death.

Speaking to Indian Express.com Claire Abrams-Myers of Animal Aid said: "We get 15 to 30 calls every day from across the city alerting us about problems both small and major faced by animals.

Instead of Tar Baby, we have Tar Puppy.
    Glad the pooch is OK.

It is remarkable - humans can be so kind to animals but so cruel to each other. Supposedly Hitler was a great dog lover.

ya. People like to pound their chests over it proudly, too. Compassion toward all living beings should really be the ultimate take-home, but it won't. "Innocent" animals blah blah, human falls in tar we'd all make cracks about what a tard he was with loads of Martling jpegs. I wonder if the erudite dogs playing poker make fun of this one between hands.

But I got nuthin' but love 4 all mah dawgz so I'll take it.
