I used to have a friend who had a Rottie. Sweetest dog, but they aren't silly they are serious. He had his tail lopped off so you couldn't tell when he was happy by waving it, but when I didn't see him for a few weeks he would get in front of me and start jumping from side to side on his front paws to let me know how excited he was. Greatest dog I ever met.

My friend had a terrier like that. Whenever he came home from work, the dog went apeshit. He jumped all over him, from head to toe, and was so excited that he ran in and out of every room in the house and then ran around in little circles until he fell down from exhaustion. Everyone should experience love like that at least once in their lives.

My friend went skiing once for a weekend and left the dog with me. The dog waited at my front door until my friend came back - he hardly ate at all, had his head down the whole time, wouldn't play, nothing. When he saw my friend come back to pick him up, he went double apeshit.

That dog lived to be 19. He had a good life.

It's an acquired thing. I know a woman who had a beagle that would just howl when she came home and she loved it. The lil fucker annoyed me most of the time (beagle's are a funny breed).

They require a lot of exercise or they become overly hyperactive maniacs.

A friend of mine, growing up, had a beagle whom she crated all day long while she was in school.

Poor thing went absolutely berserk when she came home from school.

Border collies are the worst in that respect. My grandparents stupidly got a border collie. They had a yard for him to run and gramps walked him, but it was not enough. That dog was insane.

Yeah, a lot of dogs are like that, especially the larger ones, with the exception of jack russell terriers. Those little fuckers are like firecrackers.
