If you could only pick one or the other for a pet, would you pick a dog or a cat?

I'm torn here. I love how loyal dogs are to their owners. They really wear their emotions on their sleeves. Cats, on the other hand, are usually aloof and don't give a shit about you unless they need you for something or if you have something they want.

But dogs are higher maintenance. Dogs need to be walked. I don't know how many times I've looked out my window on frigid January or February mornings and watched some poor slob walking a dog in the blasting cold and trying to get over snow drifts, all for the honor of picking up their dog's shit and carrying it around. Cats, on the other hand, need little maintenance. Give them a litter box and some privacy (cats often won't pee or shit if you're watching them) and they're good to go. No walking outside or picking up shit.

If I could toilet train a dog, that would be best.

    Your thoughts?

Want to know why you never see a "Beware of Cat" sign on homes in the neighborhood?

Because cats are fucking pussies and the thieves know it.

    cats

I don't have it in me to give a dog the attention it needs
and to be honest I enjoy being treated like i'm not worthy of the air I inhale

I have one of each. I enjoy my cat, but I love and adore my dog. Dogs will always be superior to cats, in my opinion.

Thank you for the reps, @Jayla! :)

Depends on the individual dog or cat.
    They al have different personalities.

Cats. I have both dogs and cats but I prefer the company of cats.

I think if you're basing the decision of what kind of pet you want based on what is more or less work you're kind of missing the point. Get nothing. That will be the least amount of maintenance. Or a goldfish.

This is why I always say owners of cats have serious self-esteem issues. You're taking care of something that thinks it's better than you. Two steps away from being a cutter.

I'm somewhere in between dog level work
    And nothing level work

The cat seems to slide right into that area

    Dogs.

10 bux says I'm probably too catlike myself and would feel competitive with the critter!!!

    :snicker:

I prefer energy to balance mine.

(Plus, there's the whole "crap inside in a box" thing...)

Dogs. Much more loving and loyal and easy going. I took mine on a 1300 mile road trip for Christmas, they loved getting out the car every 3 hours for pee breaks, and when we stopped that night at the motel they were happy in their new home, as long as they were with me.

I've always had dogs. When my wife died, my two mutts helped me get through the grief. They couldn't talk but they sure could listen.
