The University of Connecticut student whose obscenity-laced tirade about wanting bacon jalapeno macaroni and cheese at the Student Union went viral a week ago has posted an apology on YouTube.

A subdued and humble Luke Gatti shot the 2-minute, 33-second video himself and uploaded it to YouTube on Sunday, his father, Vincent Gatti, confirmed Monday.

Luke Gatti titled the video "Drunk UConn Student Apology Mac and Cheese" and says in the opening, "My name is Luke and I saw the video of me and I'd like to just get a few things out there."

In the video, Gatti acknowledges he was drinking and says at one point, "I've got some problems I am addressing. This was seriously a wake-up call."

Vincent Gatti said he does not expect to be in court Tuesday. "We have filed for a continuance," Vincent Gatti said, adding that his son and his family are "fearful of how terribly out of control this has gotten."

Gatti said his son uploaded the apology Sunday to express his remorse. He described his son several times as having done something terribly wrong. "He's a kid that made a bad mistake," Vincent Gatti said. "My son was wrong and feels terrible about this."

Vincent Gatti said his family has "been hit with a barrage of yelling, screaming, cursing, obnoxious, horrible, hateful, spiteful people berating me and my son for screaming and cursing and berating a stranger. There's been a world full of people doing exactly what my son did and feeling justified in doing so."

Gatti said he is not deflecting responsibility for his son's conduct, but said he found it ironic that people were so quick to inflict on him and his family what they seem to dislike in his son's conduct. "That's really a sad state," he said, adding that the threats and insults have come "repeatedly and in alarmingly large numbers."

In his video, Luke Gatti begins by apologizing to those he mistreated. "I want to start by apologizing to all the staff involved in my incident, especially the manager," he says. "He was just doing his job. He gave me so many chances to walk away. And I didn't listen to him. No one deserves to be treated that way, like ever."

Gatti also said in the video that he was intoxicated at the time and, when he watched it several days later, was horrified. "I couldn't even believe it was me in it," he said. "I was watching it and thinking, 'Oh my God. What the hell's wrong with me. This is not what I'm all about. I don't treat people this way.'"

He also apologized to his family, his friends and the UConn community. "I'd like to apologize to the university student body for representing it so poorly," he said. "It's not what UConn is all about. I totally misrepresented it and I'm sorry about that."

Gatti also said people have been sending him macaroni and cheese.

"To all those who want to send donations of mac and cheese to me, please just send it to your local food pantry," he said. "There's a lot of hungry people out there."

Students at UConn have begun a money-raising campaign to give the employees who had to deal with Gatti a night out. Freshman Sadie Rumsey and her friends set up a page on GoFundMe.com to show support for the workers.

Dave Robinson, the manager at the Union Street Market in the Student Union, denied service to Gatti because Gatti brought an open container of alcohol into the market. In a profanity-laced tirade, Gatti demanded bacon jalapeno macaroni and cheese and said he could not understand why he was being denied service.

Another person recorded the interaction between Gatti and Robinson. Several other employees joined Robinson as the confrontation grew more heated. The 9-minute video was posted to YouTube and has been viewed millions of times. It has also become the topic of late night television jokes and dozens of news stories.

Gatti was previously a student at the University of Massachusetts and was twice arrested last year on disorderly conduct charges, according to the Daily Hampshire Gazette in Northampton, Mass. During one of those arrests, he was accused of using a racial slur against a police officer, court filings show.

    Gatti remains enrolled at UConn
