He does a bit about this in his new special, Beer Hall Putsch (now on Netflix), too! I think it's his strongest hour since Deadbeat Hero.

I don't find him funny at all.
    Just pathetic.
He's a poor guy who is a member of the tea party - basically retarded.

Boy, he's a funny guy. Talks about his mother's death, his impotence, his girlfriend fucking around on him. Perfect choice for the Nirvana generation.

Pryor talked about his inadequacies too. Pryor had no problem admitting that he was a piece of shit. What does that make his generation?

Pryor's generation was boogieing in discos, getting coked up, and making lots of money in the 80's. At least in the movies and on TV.

The comedian doesn't "make" anyone, I merely pointed out that in the 90's, fashionable music of the day became a lot more about whining and moping vs the previous decades, and that that kind of "comedy" I find equally depressing. Pop culture reflects the times, and the fact is that with each generation we've become softer, more entitled, less emotionally mature, and less happy with the solid basics of life. I don't see the greatest generation types singing about feelings of alienation because their mommy moved them to live with a new daddy.

I was in my 20's when Nirvana came out. I found the whole plaid shirt "I'm depressed" thing uninteresting. However, I listen to someone known as being very downbeat at times, Richard Thompson, but it's more than "daddy didn't love me", it's about real life and real things that happen in life. It's also bitingly funny too at times. Even then, I'd find a song called "I can't get it up" uninteresting. Or a comedy bit called "my wife fucks around on me and I don't care" funny.

Stanhope's appeal strikes me as being about the audience going "wow, at least I'm not THAT fucked up!".

I think it's more a matter of his self-destructive nature and his willingness to say what many of us think, but don't want to admit. He's a degenerate and I can't relate to his lifestyle or life choices, but I think he's a funny motherfucker and I agree with much of what he says.

Don't even try, man. It's futile at this point.
