I'm tired of being locked into 2 year contracts with carriers and I'm ready to buy an unlocked phone. I know there are other unlocked phones available but I like the fact that the Nexus is pure Android with none of that shit that carriers add to the phones. I also like the fact that the Nexus is quickly updated to the latest Android version whereas with other phones you may or, more likely, may not ever see an Android update.

My contract with Verizon expires in October and I was just going to bite the bullet and switch now but I see that the Nexus 6 will also be released around that time so I'll probably wait it out. Not to mention the next major update to Android is supposed to be released around that time as well.

Where is the best place to buy one? T-Mobile or AT&T? I'm not planning on using it outside the US so are other carriers viable?

Iphone fanboys posting here please eat a dick.

Buy it at Google play. I still love mine. There's not a lot of fluff which is how I like it. My only complaint is battery life. I get pretty bad reception where I work so the cell radio goes into full power trying to keep a signal. Also the built in speaker is weak but that means almost nothing to me. I gots BT buds. I even built a magnetic QI charger for my truck. So cool. No wires and no huge clips holding the phone. Just the magic of magnets. Boom.

So there's no place to get a good deal pricewise?

Nah, I'm gonna wait until the Nexus 6 comes.

DbD, what does a custom ROM bring that stock Android or even something like Apex Launcher doesn't?

I tried using PDAnet last weekend after not using it for a long time. Apparently Verizon can somehow detect it or something and my phone could only make emergency calls afterwards. Had to do a factory reset and now the wifi isn't working right.

Not really. You pay for unlocked/off contract. $350 for an unlocked phone then straight talk for $45 month is a hard deal to beat. If you get a $199 phone from a carrier they just jack your bill up.

Lots of stuff. A kernel + ROM upgrade is pretty choice. Lots of tweaks and options you don't see in the stock ROMS. Stuff like automatically turning off LTE if you are on wifi to save battery. Clock rate tweaks. It's all good stuff if you wanna get the most from your device. I thought it would be a novelty but it's really all useful stuff.

I use my GPS based reminders all the time. Turning 40 sucks. My brain doesn't remember stuff anymore.
