Police said the 14-year-old middle school student was causing a disturbance by eating candy in a classroom Jan. 29. The student refused to listen to the teacher, and Lemay knocked the candy out of his hand, police said. According to a para-professional who witnessed the incident, the student had a scratch on his wrist, police said. The para-professional removed the student from the classroom and reported the incident to the principal, who notified the school resource officer. Police said an investigation determined that Lemay had unprivileged physical contact with the student, and she was charged with simple assault. She turned herself in to police Wednesday afternoon. School officials said Lemay has been on leave since Feb. 1.
