So I have this Dyson D16 that I bought about 3 or so years ago, it stays on the charger all the time, I use it for spot cleaning around the house so it runs about a half hour a week or so total. The problem is that the 3 LED lights indicate that the unit is fully charged, but upon using even for a few seconds it cuts out and show just one LED that is red indicating that the battery is dead. I called their customer service this morning, and the tech confirmed that I have a bad battery issue, but was more than willing to sell me a new battery for $80 along with a few bucks for shipping. I did not do that as I figured a new unit is about a little more than twice that cost. So this evening I google Dyson D16 and I find that this is a common problem with the D16 batteries. Some customer service, just wait until I call again tomorrow and inform them that I have a pal in the vacuum business, and that I know of their trying to sweep this issue under the proverbial rug.

This is exactly what is happening with mine, just that mine does not even last that long.

I would get an Oreck, but they have no cordless units. I do love the Oreck schmoop recommended to me for my car cleaning needs.

I have a Dyson, not the one you have. Sorry about your troubles. Mine has been good so far but it's still pretty new.

It really was a great and powerful little vac, actually the best cordless I have ever owned, until the battery issue that is.

Mainly I am very disappointed by their poor level of customer service.

If it was an Oreck I would simply march it into schmoops shop and have him repair it. We would probably go and grab some lunch afterwards as well.

They are for around $50, but I want to see if they will own up to the battery having problems before I go that route.

Can't beat Orecks customer service, have you considered a corded version?

Oh I have one already that is amazing, and I credit schmoop in my buying it, but as I said I really need a cordless for the quick and easy clean ups.

3 years or so is a long time for a rechargeable battery to last. The ones on my tools only go for about 2 years.

point being, it doesn't seem like much of a warranty or customer service issue.

Sorry I omitted the part that this has been happening for about a year and a half now. I just got around to calling them. Also this is hardly used, which I realize is not the best for a cordless tool, but I have other cordless tools that are much older and still work fine. I am not alone in this as is proof by my google search.

    How are you my friend?

this, even Li-ion batteries are only rated for 2 years or so. A lot depends on how you cycle it and what type of battery it is.

Thank you, Fenderbaum. I'll be popping in during Mad Men commercial breaks this fine evening, so please excuse my gorilla style posting tonight. I do hope that your vacuum inconveniences are swiftly resolved, my friend.
