The outbreak must be way worse than we are being told. If the outbreak isn't that bad and is hard to pass from person to person do you think the border would be guarded with orders of SHOOT ON SIGHT and SHOOT TO KILL??

    Shoot-on-sight order in Ebola-wary Liberia

Liberia's armed forces have reportedly been given orders to shoot people trying to illegally cross the border from neighbouring Sierra Leone, which was closed to stem the spread of Ebola.

Soldiers stationed in Bomi and Grand Cape Mount counties, which border Sierra Leone, were to 'shoot on sight' any person trying to cross the border, said deputy chief of staff, Colonel Eric Dennis, according to local newspaper the Daily Observer.

The order comes after border officials reported people continued to cross the porous border illegally.

Grand Cape Mount county had 35 known 'illegal entry points,' according to immigration commander Colonel Samuel Mulbah.

Illegal crossings were a major health threat, said Mulbah, 'because we don't know the health status of those who cross at night'.

Liberia closed its borders with Sierra Leone weeks ago in an attempt to contain the Ebola outbreak, which killed more than 1100 people in west Africa.

The announcement came after residents of a slum near the capital broke into an isolation centre and freed up to 30 Ebola patients, local newspaper Front Page Africa reported.

'As I speak the police station is deserted. There is no security now in West Point,' resident Moses Teah was quoted as saying.

The break-in to protest poor conditions at Ebola quarantine centres has raised fears that the deadly virus will spread in the slum.

'I saw sick people being taken out of the Ebola Centre. Some took them home to care for them,' said Teah.

Other residents, who reportedly continue to deny the existence of Ebola, looted the quarantine centre, stealing patients' mattresses, blood-stained bedding, cooking utensils and medication, according to media reports.

Some Liberians believe the Ebola outbreak was a ploy by government to secure foreign aid, the Daily Observer reported.

Liberians also criticise government for not providing sufficient services to Ebola patients, including health care, food and safe burials.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said that a 'massive scaling up of the international response' is necessary to get the outbreak under control.

By August 15, 2127 cases and 1145 deaths were reported from Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

In Liberia, there were 786 suspected and confirmed cases, according to the WHO, of which 413 people died.

The current outbreak is caused by the most lethal strain in the family of Ebola viruses.

Ebola causes massive haemorrhages and has a fatality rate of up to 90 per cent.

It is transmitted through contact with blood and other body fluids.

The vaccine or medicine. Difficult to believe they miraculously had a vaccine untested and yet it worked for the two Americans. Then they said well we are sending the last ones to Liberia. By the way it was stated that several companies were working on the medicine. How did they know which one to send to the doctor and other volunteer? Pleaseā€¦..just my opinion.

Ebola-infected patients driven from treatment centre in Liberia
Whereabouts of 29 patients unknown after quarantine centre is attacked by men claiming "there's no Ebola in Liberia"

Armed men claiming that "there's no Ebola" in Liberia raided a quarantine centre for the deadly disease in Monrovia overnight, prompting at least 20 patients infected with the deadly virus to flee, a witness said on Sunday.

"They broke down the door and looted the place. The patients have all gone," said Rebecca Wesseh, who witnessed the attack and whose report was confirmed by residents and the head of the Health Workers Association of Liberia, George Williams.

Williams said the unit housed 29 patients who were receiving preliminary treatment before being taken to hospital. It was unclear how many are now at large.

"They had all tested positive for Ebola," he said, adding that nine had died, without elaborating.

Wesseh said she heard the assailants shouting that President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf "is broke", adding: "She wants money. There's no Ebola" in Liberia.

Wesseh said the mostly young men armed with clubs broke into the isolation unit set up in a highschool in a Monrovia suburb.

Nurses also fled the attack, Wesseh said.

The Ebola outbreak, the worst since the virus first appeared in 1976, has claimed 1,145 lives in five months, according to the World Health Organisation's latest figures. As at August 13 the total deaths were: 413 in Liberia, 380 in Guinea, 348 in Sierra Leone and four in Nigeria.

Too bad it won't stay there because isolation and quarantine is racist.

Liberia is a seriously messed up place under the best of conditions. I can't imagine adding Ebola to the mix.

If Ebola was worse it would have already broken out of Africa sigificantly.

These are backwards people that just looted blood stained bedding.

If you see someone coughing up blood, bleeding from their nose, eyes, or other, do not come into contact with their bloody shit, and dont eat them. Seems pretty basic to me, but I piss into a toilet and own and operate a refrigerator.

VICE went to Liberia to find out where Ebola came from. They think it came from monkey meat aka "bush meat".

    This is scary as hell:

I watched the other VICE specials on Liberia.

I have two questions: who are VICE and why on earth are they going to Liberia?

I guess this begs the question, is dying from Ebola at 20 worse than dying of starvation at 15? :dontknow:

Meanwhile, in Howard's world, the most unthinkable calamity is that they had the thermostat set too low at a Broadway theater. :sadbye2:

Let's see. Aids supposedly originated from monkeys and now this Ebola is linked to monkeys. Could it be possible that these diseases both originate from American and European scientists? Don't blame the locals or the apes
