He hinted at this on Inside the actor's studio too. I believe he can still be funny if he wants to.

I never thought his stand-up was funny in the first place. This is another area in which Howard Stern has poor tastes.

Probably for the same reason that singers want to be actors and actors want to sing. He did a serious role, proved he could act. Did the Shrek thing because it is easy as fuck and he wanted to do things more kid friendly.

He could be good at standup if it is just him and not relying on shitty writers.....holy fuck I just remember how badly Metro sucked.

I remember, and actually recorded, him discussing this in an interview. He was talking about how he was itching to do stand up and there was a lot of pressure because there were so many new comics coming up. He talked about this new comic he saw that was great, Damon Wayans. He said he wants to go up there but he hesitates when he sees the new guys like Damon up there.

Yes this interview was with Arsenio Hall back in 1992 when he thought his music was more important than his comedy. If he was scared to do stand up back in 1992 why would he start now? It's like somebody saying they will start a diet that they originally planned to start 23 years ago. I don't see this ending well. He could have at least done more than 70 seconds at the recent SNL 40th Reunion.

Weird, Eddy & Damon worked together on Beverly Hills Cop in 1984.

Anyway, I think the rumors are BS, Eddy has nothing to gain by doing stand-up again IMO.

I grew up on Eddie Murphy's stand-up records and movies, and I still revisit them from time to time. They're endlessly quotable. (As a kid I loved Delirious, but as an adult I prefer Raw.) It's amazing how effortlessly it seemed to come to him. The guy was 22 when he did Delirious.
