In a Colorado State House committee meeting on Monday, patient advocates will be pushing for the use of medical marijuana, in the form of edible pot, in their state’s public schools. In the Centennial State, this decision is left to individual school districts — and no school district currently allows it.

So advocates will be pushing hard to make Colorado join New Jersey — the Garden State — as the second state in the country to allow medical marijuana in schools.

Colorado had recreational and medical marijuana sales of $996 million in 2015, according to The Cannabist. The state also collected more than $135 million in taxes and fees, and ironically, more than $35 million is earmarked for school construction projects.

There are several obvious problems with medical marijuana on school grounds — for one, making sure that the patient is the only person who has access to the drug. Secondly, having a school nurse administer medical edible pot when that same school employee is responsible by law for reporting any usage of that same substance is nonsensical.

if the kid was on a prescribed narcotic, it wouldn't even be a question of being allowed.

pot they lose their minds over!

i'm assuming most of these edibles would be high CBD not high thc.
then again, we went to class high after lunch plenty of times.

    cooking class! :leaf:

They already have thc tablets that do the same thing oxycodones and hydricodones do, but without the addiction that comes along with it.

What the fuck is going on in this country?

When I was in grade school, aspirin was about the strongest thing being dispensed by the school nurse - and even that probably required parental approval. Yet somehow we managed to survive the 8th grade.

Just to be clear, I'm not in any way denying that weed can have beneficial medicinal properties. Nor do I wish to deny it to those whose suffering is eased by it. I would, however, be curious to know what range of medical conditions are afflicting so many eight year olds that this availability needs to be formally incorporated into school district policy.

And even at that, I've read compelling stories about young kids, battling serious illnesses, whose lives were reportedly turned around by highly monitored and tightly regulated dosages of the type of high CBD/low THC strains that @sstressed mentioned. But if this is a legitimate course of treatment, prescribed by a legitimate doctor and the child retains the ability to attend classes while undergoing this treatment, is this not something that could easily be handled on a case-by-case basis, between the parents and school administrators, as is done with many other youngsters facing unique illnesses?

My other questions, borne purely out of my ignorance on the subject, are

    1) in this story, are we strictly talking about making available these low THC strains and

    2) how possible is it to administer precisely controlled medical dosages of CBD through the consumption of edibles?
