Simply means a disc (soft cushions between vertebra in ur spine) rupture and press on the surrounding nerves causing intense pain & muscle weakness in the lumbar (lower back) spine. Pain can be radiating (shooting) down the legs as well (Sciatica.)

Not bullshit. I'm several years younger than Artie and go for epidurals for my sciatica in my lower back on a regular basis. I also have a titanium plate screwed into my upper spine and I'm not a football player. Shit like this happens to young people, just ask me & Sternski.

Of course, it is also possible that as a former (recovering) addict, Artie is concocting the Sciatica story in order to explain his opiate use as Nemo suggested. Addicts know no bounds...

 

Sadly, this will prolly be the case. Love the show, it's getting so good but Artie will prolly fuck it all up, just as with every other job he's ever had (he said this on Howard.)

 

He really should at least make an attempt to lose weight.

 

Very hard with an old fashioned mother who coddles him with tons of food (no disrespect to Judy Lange, I've met her & she's a wonderful woman) but Italian moms love to force feed their kids. He's prolly also depressed which usually brings on weight gain. They've also trained the twins to keep the studio fridge loaded with salted fatty Italian deli meats. Food is a drug & Artie is an addict....
