...not themselves for failing to patch it.
Why the CEO gets until Oct. 3rd to respond to the Senate committees is a joke. That fuck should be answering YESTERDAY.
and... you wont believe it... unbelievable.

A failure to patch a known security hole becomes more believable after hearing about an egregious security hole discovered just this weeks. Brian Krebs reports on a situation discovered by Hold Security, where Equifax's Argentinian website left administrator access (including databases of consumer's personal information) guarded by the ultra-difficult user/password login combo of admin/admin

Every executive that sold stock leading up to this story should be called in front of the senate.... who would applaud them for a job well done.

We are going to need a lot of rope.

You hand this information over to various people all the time, any criminal at the auto dealership, or a teller, etc could have it. You should lock your credit anyway and unlock it temporarily when you need credit. Until then you are vulnerable to identity theft already. A credit card offer is probably laying out in the street right now with your name on it because the postal carrier was eating a burger and didn't shut the lid properly.

I know the answer is money

But still how did we get to a point that we allowed a private company to have literally every single piece of identifying information a person can have with no responsibility for what they do with it

I mean jesus christ we really sold out a long time ago

    This!

I pay cash on as much as I can. Last time I needed anything credit related was to simply get it revolving again as I had not used any in so long. Scores are in the 800+ and the only reason I'll be needing any upcoming is to help finance our new build.

After that, back to cash for damn near everything. I got bit a decade ago with stolen ID Bank data. Never again!

This is a hard conversion to make for many people and I get that. But, if you can slowly convert to this type of living, it really puts all the control back in your hands.

the bank I work at constantly has customers calling or coming with their accounts hacked.
mostly from handing over their debit cards at eateries, gas stations etc.we are seeing people withdraw cash now to pay for stuff.

Yeah, never let your debit card out of your sight. And all the banks, corporations, and governments want to go to full credit systems without any cash. But shit like this hack make the average consumer want to switch to cash only. Should be interesting to see which side wins.

we had a non-customer come in and just wanted the biggest safety deposit box to put all his money in.he didn't care about earning interest in any account.they turned him away cause it's illegal to do that.he should have said he just wanted to use it for legal papers and jewelry.

The worst part is you still have to check your credit constantly even when you do not use credit at all

Because even people you never thought about are reporting. Like any cable company, all of your utilities, etc

And having your credit hit could cost many thousands of dollars at some point

    Fuck it all

Got an email this morning asking if I ordered $1000 worth of shoes overnight. So now I have a new credit card coming. I'm wondering if it was this hack.

    Yup!

I fought with BofA over this sorta shit years and years ago.

And what's better, my dad and I have the same name. But the idiot credit reporting companies combine our shit all the time. They somehow miss the SS# and DOB.
As recently as a few months ago I had a loan officer of a bank checking and said to me "we have an issue with your report. How can you have 40+ years of credit and you are 36 years old?"

And to one up this. The IRS confuses he and I as well sometimes.

    Talk about total fucking incompetence

Yeah my uncle and I have the same first and last name (thanks parents you clowns not thinking of credit scores)

And he used to live in the same zip code I am currently living in but has not lived here in 20 years

The number of times I have had to hassle over verifying my identity has had me go insane at points
