It's still a little early, but it's looking more likely that Erika may hit Florida. One model shows a chance of it hitting as a CAT 3. I think I read that it's been 10 years since a hurricane has made landfall in FL - is that possible?

Anyhow, I can't imagine Howard's anxiety level right now. I remember my husband and I closed on a house on a Friday, with a hurricane due to hit the next week (it did - as a strong TS). The sellers couldn't get us to sign fast enough. Luckily, no damage on our new home. Oh, and our home was slightly below the $52M price point...

Wilma was the last destructive one: late October 2005.. just when you thought the worst of the season had passed.

Actually, it's been 10 years since a major hurricane (Cat 3 or above) has made landfall anywhere in the continental U.S.

I knew the chances of Florida or the Gulf Coast getting slammed by one this year were much greater when NOAA, for the first time in all those ten years, finally came out at the beginning of this summer with a prediction that this hurricane season would likely produce below average activity. This coming after a decade of being spectacularly wrong year after year, making prediction after prediction of an above average hurricane season (I mean if algore says so, it has to be true, right? :jj: )

You just had to know that as soon as those retards finally entertained the possibility that this year would be similar to the last ten, that the trend was about the change. :D

The bitch is heading right into me. If the storm keeps tracking according to the map, it would be a direct hit to RP's paradise in the sun.

I know it's wrong, but I fucking love hurricanes. They're so exciting to sit through. We haven't had any in Fl. for over a decade, so I guess we're overdue for a big one.

"Ronnie, bring Beth to the Florida place and have her stand on the roof holding a metal pole, tell her you saw a camera crew sailing by"

Thanks for posting. The cone is pretty big, but I will still make sure I'm stocked up. FPL loses power when someone farts!

Howie invested in a new roof along with Beth's 1,000 square foot clothing stable.

Hope he paid off the subcontractors.

During the final 2004 hurricane, I was up in the Space Coast area working at a client. I left the job early to drive back home.

A weird sight on the drive back home was seeing 100+ cars waiting to fill up at the warehouse club gas station while there were regular gas stations that had almost no lines right across the street.

    Me too! :happywave:

We've been lazy this year and have not stocked up on batteries or such. Guess I need to gather a few things in the next couple days if this keeps on the same path.

However, after living 6 days without power or water after Charlie... a cat 1 should be nothing compared to that nightmare.
