Just saw this today and liked it so much I had to sart a thread about it. BEST sci fi movie I've seen all year.
Super slick. Sexy. Great effects in a movie that had to be done on a pretty tight budget. Just a flat out good time.
Done with my movie revue. See it.

Oh, AND it clocks in well under 2 hours.

I saw a review of it yesterday, and it looked pretty interesting.

Glad you liked it. I trust your opinion way more than some movie critic on tv.

It's a movie about a hot robot, but not like the one in "Blade Runner." And it's not exactly like the AI in "Her" either. It's kind of like the hot Borg in the "Star Trek" movie, but not like the female "Terminator."

All in all, a completely original idea.

Ex Machina is my favorite AI movie of all time.

I saw it last night with my girlfriend. She thought it was too slow but I was fascinated the entire film. I should mention I am a comp sci student so I could have listened to their discrete math, problem solving and philosophical dialogue for hours.. Whoever wrote it did a great job, it had some twists and turns that were hard to figure out until the very end. The AI itself was a chilling, realistic portrayal that really had me buying into the entire storyline. More than a few creepy scenes that could categorize this movie as a thriller.

I love movies that personify computers because it shows that in the future its possible to empathize and show emotion for a computer. I didn't really want to fuck it, but I without a doubt felt sorry for it. I'd like to think that 50-100 years in the future, humans (or even AI) will look back at sci fi flicks like this much like Star Trek imagined the iPad a good quarter century before its invention.

One note on the acting: I previously bashed Oscar Isaac because of the movie A Most Violent Year (highly rated, but I thought it was a pile of shit). I thought he was a horrible actor up until the credits rolled at the end of Ex Machina; I didn't even realize it was the same guy. He was great in this movie (very funny), i'd definitely check out his future films. He is in the upcoming Star Wars.

Does the robot chick expose her robot boobs at any point?

    Worst elements in sci fi:
    1. Time travel. Give me a fuckin' break.
    2. Aliens or robots who happen to look like smoking hot human chicks with giant tits.

I saw it last Friday and thought it was great. The only minor thing I had with it was I thought it should have ended:
right when she gets on the elevator to leave and leaves the kid locked in the room
I realize why they ended it the way they did but what a great frigging ending it would have been.
