At least 11 people were killed when tornadoes, heavy rain and snow blew into the Dallas area late on Saturday. A tornado that hit the Dallas suburbs of Rowlett, Garland and Sunnyvale was classified by the National Weather Service as an EF4 storm. This video shows transformers exploding and power lines arcing in the path of the Rowlett tornado. Our neighbors transformer got stuck by lightning the morning of Christmas Eve. I was asleep and did not hear what woke me up. A few seconds later I hear a loud electrical sizzling noise. I look out the window and it happened again. I was nearly fucking blinded seeing 7,200 volts arcing out of the power pole that is on fire. The rain put out the pole that was on fire and the shrubs that were showered with a huge rain of sparks. I called the power company and reported a dangerous condition. My wife called the police - they sent out the fire department. A fire truck showed up two minutes later then the power company showed up a few minutes after them. Then the arcing stared again and again and again. It sounded like a Tesla coil was right fucking in our living room - loud as hell. Power guys took off to the front of the neighborhood to cut the power. It took three guys, two bucket trucks and a new transformer to get it all fixed. It was pouring down rain with lightning the whole time. The wife made up some quick goodie baskets to thank the guys for working hard in the rain on a holiday for us.
