Lara Logan accompanies a French Catholic priest on a mission to expose a genocide perpetrated by ISIS that has taken the lives of at least 5,000 Yezidi in Iraq
    • The following script is from "The Killing Machine" which aired on May 8, 2016. Lara Logan is the correspondent. Max McClellan and Richard Butler, producer.

American soldiers have been drawn deeper into the war against ISIS and this past week a third U.S. serviceman was killed in northern Iraq. It's a fight that began more than a year and a half ago when ISIS was expanding it's territory and it's been hard to shed light on the areas under its control because most reporters can't go there. But there have been some places where ISIS has been run off, and Sinjar is one of them.

It's a small city that lies on a highway connecting ISIS territory in Syria to its territory inside Iraq and when ISIS fighters took control they began to systematically wipe out the Yezidi peoplewho lived there.

After Sinjar was liberated, we went there with Father Patrick Desbois, a French Catholic Priest, who is one of the world's leading voices on genocide. He spent 15 years documenting the mass murder of Jews by Hitler's mobile death squads. Now he says he's on a mission to expose what he calls the ISIS killing machine.

Gun control in the middle east will be the only path to peace.

I though the same thing when I watchd the show, nothing new here. "60 Minutes" has gone way down hill since Don Hewitt died a couple years back.

Thanks for posting. Sad to read.
When my Nephew was at Columbia, one of his professors was on a panel on how defeat Islamic terrorism. The answer they came up with was to kill them all.

That was one of the first things that ISUS did.

Repent or die: al-Qaeda forces announce rules for Iraqi territory they now control.

There was no such thing as gun control in Iraq.

As a matter of fact, Saddam handed out small arms to the Iraqis prior to our invasion in 2003. Imagine our government doing that, actually ARMING the people.

After our invasion, we enacted gun registrations and confiscations, limiting them to 1 gun per household.

    ISUS has banned them altogether.

One AK per household if I remember correctly. Fuck, we found 50 cal machine guns buried in urban back yards over there.

Thats amazing. And I think we were told that these guys were former military and in some cases they probably were but I dont think Iraq restricted any type of gun ownership, despite the government being so despotic (allegedly).

Lara Logan in this video talks about how they used to be able to travel freely/safely in Iraq prior to 2003 (not in those exact words).

Umm, fairly safely. We uncovered mass graves that dated before the invasion that were linked to kidnapping for ransom gangs. The ground preserved them enough to where you could still see that the infant was crying up to the point of death.
